Parents - where to go from here?

Well they started me off riding bikes when i was 12, currently 18, and theyve never been overly keen on me riding, this is my second crash since riding, both i walked away with little to no damage. This 2nd crash has taken out the whole front end of my FZR, i got up after crashing into a audi with not even a scratch on me, but now both the parents have taken a big disliking to be getting back on this is now a month after the crash and ive still got nowhere.

What can i do in this kind of situation? I would have thought a month would be plenty enough time to let things cool down...

Mine were the exact same after I rear ended an astra and they stayed in hospital for 8 hours watching me get minor surgery etc....

It took me around 3 months to get the bike back, I eventually nagged my dad enough to let me get it back because I got it back cheap and could do it cheap to sell it.

Then he decided he would not let me get anything else, deffo nothing bigger while I was living in his house. I played along, started riding mine again and they were wary but fine with it. Then I moved out.... (I'm still to afford something bigger) and I know he will detest the idea, but it's what I want and nothing is going to stop me. Fuckin hypocrit - he rode many big bikes during having accidents too.

Thats the part thats eating at my the most, this crash i got up with no damage to myself at all after riding into the back of a audi, as ive stressed to them i was wearing the proper gear. Dosnt seem to get through to them and it confuses my why such a minor (in the scheme of what the crash could have been had i been going faster etc) crash has now made me banned from bikes?

7 crashes, 6 months...after every 1 my dad said he would cut it in half... 7th time he didnt...as its pretty much dead anyway
after 7th time..i actually considered giving up..
8 months later, after learning to walk and havin the balls to get back on 1, bought me a cbr125 and havent looked back yet

Its just them worrying.. just start riding it... its only going to get better once ur out once a week..twice..3..all week.
Its how i got mine to warm up to the idea

So i looked around..found a cheap ass flat that i know they would hate me to live in, then make some shit up like with all the bills bla bla you would have £32 or something...they wont kick u out then

get some advanced riding course thingies, obtain A+'s and present. May sway them a little. Get a smaller, less sports-like bike, may sway them a little. Easier to move out though

Do you pay a decent rent, etc? If you do, it seems reasonable you can choose what you do - however of course it's still their home to do with as they please.
If not, maybe suggest you do chuck some money at them.

How about looking to do IAM or other 'advanced riding' course - get some literature and explain how this will give you very good odds to not having another accident.
(From someone that has crashed a lot more than most on here...) there is no decent 'reason' to crash if you're sensible and make a bit of effort.
Could also find some grusome car crash pictures, statistics about how dangerous many other activities and such like; to show that it's just as bad as many other hobbies they may not mind you doing.
I see a higher incidence of people being hurt playing football than riding bikes generally, I reckon.

They want me to get a car but i dont have a car license as of yet as my last car instructor was always ill so i lost all enthusiasm with learning
My mum works with a bloke who has offered to take me out doing advanced riding *when* i get back on the road.
I think the only way ill get back on the road is to do advanced and buy something like a 400 bandit with the restrictors, will be slow but beats walking i suppose? still will take alot of persuation i bet, nothing seems to get through, im not even that gutted about the bike being a state, more about not being able to ride because of them

Tell them you cant afford to get car lessons. Let them pay/lend for lessons and a shitter of a cage.

Wait for things to cool for 6 months then get another bike and you will have alternative transport for shitty weather days.

My folks set the rule that I'd have to drive a car for a year or two before could get a bike. I'm glad I did, in retrospect, because it helped me form some road awareness, and I'd also figured out where the blind spots were; basically anything that's not in the 90 degree arc immediately in front of the driver...

Try doing some advanced rider training? It'll help set your parent's mind at ease, as well as helping the insurance quotes. Failing that, move out.

My parents didn't approve of my learning, didn't approve of my buying the bike, were not impressed when I binned it (though that I was alive and intact was naturally more important) and are not thrilled that within a month I'd replaced all my gear and was sizing up a replacement.

BUT. I'm my own man, I'm old enough to be stupid and not have to answer to them.

Park your bike somewhere else! Find a friend with a shed or garage, or find an ad (they are usually people renting space)...and keep them in the dark, and hope they don't find out.

Sometimes it's worth taking a breather from something you're passionate about. Often people define themselves by what they are passionate about, and as a result they can not bare to do without it. Personally I don't like anything to have that kind of grip over my life.

I've been there and am glad I have not been riding for a few years.

If you can justify getting back on in a rational way then I don't see any reason why your parents come round to the idea. Approach the situation like an adult and your parents will treat you like one. (personally I don't think a dispute like this is good terms to be moving out of your parents house).

To add to which you've got your whole life to enjoy bikes, maybe it's worth respecting your parents wishes while's living under their roof.
