Well I'm gonna have to get some winter gloves now as its creeping up on us, can you recomend some gloves that are warm, waterproof and still give you a good feel for the controls. As a newbie I dont know the average price you would expect to pay but I was thinking about £50. I do have some handlebar muffs to help when really cold.

Any suggestions appreciated.

My winter gloves are my summer gloves but i wear latex gloves under them. Keeps the hands dry and keeps a good feel for the controls.

For £50 just choose anything without vents/perforations and get some thermal inner liners....you`ll still get cold fingers though no matter what. (on longer journeys)
Incase you didn`t already know.....leather`s not waterproof so forget about keeping the gloves dry.Get some rubber or latex gloves for inside...or some of those waterproof over-mitts.

Winter is why heated grips were invented.

But i would sugest heated gloves

They run off a battery supply and fit under you normal gloves.

I got a heated vest somewhere, Not used it since febuary.

Good for working on the roofs aswell

Thumbs Up

The HG gloves I've got are 'ok', but need inner gloves when it gets really cold.
Incidentally, I made a 'brush guard' (as seen on enduro bikes) style bit for my zx9 muffs - works well like that; keeps them in about the right place and stops it pushing against the levers. Moved them to my KTM which already has the guards and seems to be ok there too.
I've tried using latex gloves underneath and not found it very effective for me.

Were you using the disposable surgical type ones?
If so... you should try the thicker ones that they sell in some of those online kinky sex/lingerie shops.
They do a top job of keeping water out AND keeping your hands warm....but can be quite embarrasing if anyone sees you putting them on/taking them off Mr. Green

Mine are full length ones...like these Embarassed

I bought some winter gloves from Bikers paradise for £35 and they are the best I have had so far not sure of they are waterproof they may be, but to make them waterproof I bought some Spada waterproof mits to go over the top, I just keep them under the seat, they were £9.99, they are so warm and dry when placed over the winter gloves it is unreal. When you try the mits on off the bike they are terrible, two fingers in each finger part and a seperate thumb, a bit like a spock salute, I wouldnt have thought i could even scratch my ar*e in them, but amazingly after a couple of minutes on the bike they are really good in the wet to ride with.

I saw some dianese waterproof gloves on sale price for about £40, I think it was at Earnshaws, but I prefer the two pairs and then I am wearing normal gloves on dry days.

PS I have silk undergloves to wear on really freezing days and keep them in the same bag as the Spada overmitts under the seat-sorted!!!

I survived mainly on my summer gloves last year. It wasn't too bad. I did try muffs but they look like elephant ears, so soon came off. I also tried under-gloves but didn't think they were much cop either.

I think I will try heated grips this year.

I used to have silk undergloves and they were great, bought some fancy high tech undergloves and they were crap, managed to get some silk ones again and they are great, but they are hard to find, was at one of the two places I mentioned- I think!! Cheap when you find them.

Try those Spada overmitts they are superb.

Should be pretty easy to fit.
Took me a total of maybe about an hour to fit the set to my KTM recently - and this was the sort that fit over your normal grips. I did already have an 'accessory socket' ready.

HARR HARR HARR!

You can now buy these from HG for £32, they're having a "25% off all winter gloves" deal running.

Also, if you sign up at 4theride.co.uk (HGs deals website, free vouchers emailed out every month) you can download and print a free voucher that will give you 50% off any winter gloves, when you buy a pair of winter boots.

Winter boots are defined by any pair of boots that have a gore-tex or sheltex membrane, and must be of equal or greater value than the gloves. So with a voucher and pair of boots, you could have the gloves for £21 Very Happy

Also, I'm not being paid by HG Laughing

Just to add, I've had 2 pairs of these gloves (Lost my first pair Crying or Very sad ) And they've lasted well, even in a small spill. Very comfy, warm, actually waterproof and good feel.

Also, don't put them on the radiator, as that's how I melted the goretex in my second pair!

Just remember whatever you buy make sure they are not too tight or the cold seeps straight through.
You need a bit of a air gap.

Got some good Frank Thomas gloves the other day - waterproof, windproof, nice and fluffy. A little bit bulky, but I'll get used to them.

Snow and Rock do silk glove liners, by the way. Used them last year, will probably get another pair soon.

Air trapped between multiple layers makes the best insulation.

More to the point, I can only recommend 2 gloves if you want to wear them without wearing muffs or liners.

1) Hein Gericke 5/3 Finger Panthans (toastie BUT will feel cold after an hour without muffs)
2) alpinestars Tech Road Goretex. Got caught out in a deluge with them on and kept me dry and relatively comfortable. Thank god for goretex. I guess with winter, you wont be encountering the cold so much. If it DOES rain, unless you have a northerly wind, chances are it won't be that cold air temperature wise.
