Everyone in my office is discusing what motorcycle gloves we should get in for motorcyclists in the cold cold Lancashire weather.

They want to know my opinion - but I thought I'd ask you guys what it is that you value in your gloves because you know more about it than I do. What do we have to do to impress you?

I mean, I guess they have to be warm. But do they have to be leather? How bulky should they be? How much should they cost? Is your pair great and if so why?

I'm sorry if anyone thinks this is spam - I don't mean it to be. I'm not trying to sell you anything - I just want some proper biker opinions.

Thanks guys Smile

Presumably you can see what people like from your sales figures. Thumbs Up

Winter gloves should be warm, waterproof, not bulky, and cost as little as possible. Damn I'm good, I should go into sales or whatever it is ghostbikes do. Very Happy

Your post isn't spam, tbh it's reverse spam cos people are less likely to buy from a company that doesn't know about the products they're selling or the market that they're selling to.

Hi

To some extent it is personal which gloves people prefer. Personally I won't go near non leather gloves.

Best winter gloves I have had are some Richa ones that I have now almost worn out. Thermal and waterproof leather. Also have a strip of rubber like a windscreen wiper for you visor.

Very close behind are some JTS leather cloven hooves. These are the only leather 2 finger gloves I have been able to find.

All the best

Keith

Hey Kickstart and Ste, thanks for the tips.

It's not that Ghostbikes don't know what they're doing, but we just like to keep in touch with what bikers really want - and to hear about things they would like in the future but that aren't available now. You can't read that from sales figures, you have to actually speak to people!

We're actually the biggest UK motorbiking retailer on Ebay, so we know about our products and our markets, but we don't like to boast :p.

Kickstart - those two finger gloves are weeeird. Do you really like them? I thought it would just make it impossible to pick up anything and feel very restricted. I like the visor idea, I'll have to look into that - those sound like cool gloves.

Ta guys.

Hi

Some people get on with the 2 finger gloves, others hate them. I always use 4 fingers on the brake and clutch so have no issues there. With the fingers paired they are warmer (presume a combination of one finger keeping the other warm, plus less surface area).

Quite a few people seem to make them, but the JTS ones are the only leather ones I have found (HG sell some but they are not all leather).

Both myself and my better half use them and we have a few sets of them.

All the best

Keith

Winter gloves; decently waterproof is nice, though few I've found are properly waterproof; however still abrasion resistant.
If you can't make them so I can pull them off without the line turning inside out (after a few uses), don't bother making them at all.

Obviously warm, but I'd like one I won't entirely boil in during summer and still have some 'feel'. Saying that, I did quite like the massive buffalow ones that were way to hot and big for summer, but did keep your toasty for longer in winter.

I lost one of my HG gloves in Europe and the IXIS or something ones I got are pretty terrible. So any suggestions for (non-lobster Smile ) gloves would be useful.

Careful with what you claim - if you knew your market you'd have tried lobster gloves and would certainly be well aware of a rubber strip on the gloves Smile.

Thanks G.

I can't claim personally to be a glove guru - unlike some of the fanatics I work with. Hopefully you'll find some good ones - you can try following Ghostbikes on twitter because they're giving out a discount on there. Good luck either way. I think MCN does some good reviews of gloves...?

And anyway how did you lose just one glove?

I lost a glove by dropping that glove, but not the other in a ferry terminal and only working it out when I got off the ferry at the other end.

I don't 'twit' and wouldn't follow a website such as yours if I did.
I had a look on your website and your Flash bits made it difficult to use with this browser which does not have Flash installed.
Furthermore, I would actively avoid using a site that appeared to be moderately actively spamming forums in this manner. I have put a decent amount of business the way of another user of this forum many years ago who kept mentions of his business relatively subtly and more importantly still offered impartial advice in an area he was an expert in, with no expectation of reward. To my mind, that is a very good way to attract business - but of course you have to have that area that you are genuinely an expert in first.

I would not trust MCN reviews of gloves, though if you run out of bog-roll, it can be quite useful.

As I'm reasonably happy with the HG gloves, that have lasted me the last year of every week day use, forty minutes to an hour a day and more before that - I think I'll head back there, maybe go for the more expensive ones this time.

thanks for your feedback G.

I don't want to spam everyone and I take your points onboard. Good luck with the gloves and I hope the winter riding goes well Smile

Mmm, so you post about gloves in the workshop forum....

In that case unless you have a latex alergy, then latex ones work well at keeping the much off your hands Wink Laughing

Ifi ts keeping them warm when working on the bike in a cold garage, then the fur lined marrigolds work well Karma

The Pathan 3-finger gloves that HG make used to be made entirely of leather. I had a pair, and i thought they were awesome. Then i had them in my backpack one day, and the zip split and i lost them (along with some of the OH's clothes, and some of my undercrackers, but fuck that i lost my gloves!)

I got another pair, but was a bit dissappointed, because they have peices that ar textile on the back of the hand Sad The palm is still leather, and whilst very soft and supple, is very good when hitting the tarmac! I went flying off my bike last year, and they saved my hands and the leather didn't even get scuffed.

Seems from the posts here that Lobster gloves seem to like wandering off on their own.... Shocked

I'm currently on the hunt for some winter gloves as mine are too thin and wearing inner gloves is a pain. Though the biggest problem I have is all the fingers are too short. Took me ages to find my current gloves that fit. I have tiny hands and wrists, just very long fingers. So that's my main requirement, apart from being warm and waterproof.

The only way you will make money is to sell these cheaper.

I use the same gloves all year round, during the winter I've got a set of pug ugly oxford overbar muffs that have been bloody great in the cold and wet. if it's just cold I stick a pair of stretchy woolen gloves on underneath my leather ones. Around this time of year I start to carry the muffs under the seat and I can't say I've ever had my fingers get uncomfortably cold even if I do look like a prat.

I am quite happy with my thick buffalo gloves (£20 off my local shop). I bought a bigger size, so my finger tips are just fine.
Wish it was more water resistant.

Wiper on finger, check
Leather, check
Gore-tex, check
Warm, check
cuff that goes over or under jacket, check.

If anyone "up north" wants a good pair of winter gloves you should pop into the rocket centre.
I got a pair from there a few weeks ago called"bikers..goretex".
They`ve got the "thinsulate" stuff built into the lining with some fleece and goretex...and theyre proper waterproof too...tried them a few times so far and no cold gets in at all.The palms and fingers are good leather and they`ve got knuckle guards aswell.
Cracking pair of gloves for about £80 but i couldnt use them all year round.Just winter.

Here`s a link if you want to check them out:

What I look for is a glove that has a good feel for the controls, obviously warm and waterproof with a cuff thats not to bulky to go under my jacket cuff. Not bothered about the hard knuckle protector as Kevlar on here and the palm for protection is enough. Visor wipe and plain colours with reflective strip is good.

If it's got Gore-Tex or eVent as well Thinsulate inside it, then I'd be interested. Strong leather and some nice knuckle armour (carbon fibre please) also please. Thumbs Up

HARR HARR HARR!

You can now buy these from HG for £32, they're having a "25% off all winter gloves" deal running.

Also, if you sign up at 4theride.co.uk (HGs deals website, free vouchers emailed out every month) you can download and print a free voucher that will give you 50% off any winter gloves, when you buy a pair of winter boots.

Winter boots are defined by any pair of boots that have a gore-tex or sheltex membrane, and must be of equal or greater value than the gloves. So with a voucher and pair of boots, you could have the gloves for £21 Very Happy

Also, I'm not being paid by HG Laughing
