... Restore my faith that at least some bikers in london can have a bit of fun.

More and more in and around our capital i see riders who i have nothing in common with. They ride sensible bikes, in a sensible way, they dont accelerate very hard, they dont filter very fast and stoppies or wheelies? forget it... Once the reserve of the pipe and slippers brigade, their pro-safety propaganda is working (and probably for the better). Less and less i find another bike out on the streets whos up for a bit of a hoon, a bit of a play... You know what i mean...

Maybe now i have painted myself as a two wheeled god i should explain what brought me to post this. Have just come off the back of a 5 year relationship and its all getting a bit nasty so i went out earlier to clear my head for a bit of a ride. Found a couple of quick ish bikes out there but unfortunately the riders were far to sensible to have any fun with, i was just about done, was ready to pack it in, get home and watch that new series of peep show. When at some traffic lights i am accosted by an angry lycra clad cyclist who gave me the finger and shouted how "aggressive" i was. I always try an find other bikers for a play and same as you, they always seem to be sensible heads. Then alomst the exact same thing, one day at the lights, see some scooter an filtered up to him. Was talking to the guy as the lights were on red then this group of 4 supermoto riders, few on 125s and two on a 400 an 600, pulls up at the side of us. Went for a little blip with them then they turned off into some side road which I assumed was their street, so pipped my horn an flew off.

Few months later, I spot this supermoto 400 ride past me in the opposite direction and look at me. Then he cuts across a road an ends up infront of me and pulls into a bus stop. I pulled in and it was the same lad from a few months before and he said they had been looking for me since. He rang his mates an we went up a few miles away and did exactly the same thing, bit of a whacky racers escapade through town.

I know where one of them lives and we all go for a blast every weekend now. Quite like the supermotos as well after having a go on the 400.

sumo's are fun and addictive. i've had mine for alnost two years and hoon around all the time.

same here, we went off superbikes on to enduros, full
race ones none of the pretend rubbish then thought we would get a couple of ploddy enduros, XTXs to get us back in to road biking before we decided which road bikes to buy, we have never looked back, ours are very tame compared to the more racey huskies and KTMs but still we have great fun on them, it is just riding the roads that suit them.

Total surprise to us as we had nothing but 750s and 1000s, fantastic fun.

We use them for fun blasts one up, but then two up use them as short tourers, we were out for 8 hours yesterday, probably about 6 hours riding and only used £20 worth of juice. It is like winding back the clock years.

I would rather ride a lighter Huskey on the blasts but like the flexibility of the XT, plus parts are pennies and available anywhere.

It is so easy to understand why they handle so well, narrow engines, high ground clearance give incredible lean angles, if your hoofing it you have to take your leg out from the low side otherwise it hits the ground, the tyres dont last long but are in their perfect grip around 40-60mph perfect for tight twisties plus the wide bars make them easier to turn and longer travel suspension handle severe undulations in and around corners, fun from getting on to getting off.

It is mad fun but usually within the speed limits.

You have to admit it, supermoto's and enduro bikes are exciting bikes. Might be just me, but I feel like I'm supior to most things on the road because I can drive my bike on anything, a muddy field can't stop me Hard to explain really. Might be a rebellious thing.

Would love a supermoto though, especially a KTM. God they're sexy

Get an Enduro and then some SM wheels. I've got an EXC525 which is an animal offroad and even more fun when kitted out in SM trim, takes like 20mins.

Doesn't matter if I'm hungover, I'm just out for a ride or it's first thing in the morning and I'm on the run to work.... just can't seem to ride my little DRZ sensibly - and there was me thinking the sportsbike/hoon mentality had been flushed from my system.

Not into sportsbikes as much as I used to be, but for speeds under 75mph or so, the DRZ offers all the thrills I need. Needed 130+ on a (600cc +) sportsbike before I got to that same level of fun.

Agree with above, if you arent sure if you want an enduro or supermoto, buy the enduro and get a set of supermoto wheels, I would think a bit about which bike to go for first, it needs to be light enough for enduro and have parts availability to use a supermoto, if later on you go just SM then it is handy if the brakes etc are easily upgraded.

Models that are raced usually have loads of parts available at sensible prices, tarty stuff which never goes as well usually costs more in parts.

Also agree with everyone about Supermotos, they are so much fun and less likely to lose your licence as we tend to head for very difficult to ride roads as that is where they are most fun.

My Supermoto is even more fun than my first fifty and that says it all.

Its quite the opposite here in the north I find. The hooligans generally outweigh the sensible folk, at least where I regularly ride anyways.
Theres generally always other bikers up for some spirited riding.
Had an adrenalin thumping race/ride with a Ducati 996 not so long ago, it was seriously hard work trying to keep up with that thing through the twisties! I find when this happens tho its a matter of minutes before things get a bit insane i.e risk taking and lack or respect for the road kicks in as you try to get away from/catch up to each other in a 'battle of bollocks'. I try to avoid doing this too often for obvious reasons - tho its fun at the time.

Yeah that sounds good, its a handy thing to have. I have a 91 model though so its just kickstart....my poor ankle
