Yamahas equivalent of an RC30, and made the RC30 look cheap when new. Titanium rods, etc.

I dont particularly like those older bikes but they`re becoming classics now so that`s why the price tag`s so high for mint ones.
You`d need to be a serious enthusiast or collector to appreciate a bike like that.

I now classics are classics but if I just don't like em then ..... I wouldn't pay 2 bob for it.

Still I can appreciated any bike or car that has a few years under its belt and is still in good nick Thumbs Up

Probably because you've completely missed the point of what these bikes are about.
People buy things like R1's R6's GSXR's etc and think they are buying race bikes, they're not. There have been very few true race bikes made in the last 2 decades such as the RC30, RC45, 0WO1, GSXR750RK, GSXR750SP, R7 etc and these bikes are still generally better handling with comparative power to the 'replica's' made today.

Note things like the dry clutch, the competition only spec suspension, single seat where the frame is cut down so a pillion cannot be fitted. These are items that 20 years later still haven't made it onto standard bikes.

You can easily say...

FYI...i didn`t miss the point.I was just answering a question someone asked.
Mechanically these 80s bikes may well be the dogs danglies ( i wouldn`t know about all that coz all i do is "ride") but visually,to my eye,they`re outdated and quite frankly ugly in comparison to todays machines.Thats only my personal opinion though,if you like them thats fine with me.No problem here.

Not really mate.I`m just saying i dont like the look of them at all.If i rode one i might be converted by the mechanically supremacy...but i havent...so i cant. Wink

i`m an 80s child myself and i remember all these bikes from back in the day.Back then i admit i used to drool over them,much the same as i drooled over sierra cosworths,e30 beemers,renault 5GT turbos,xr2i etc etc etc but that was "then"..this is "now".They dont appeal to me anymore.

I would have thought that most modern sports bikes would be faster on the road or track then all of the above? I know that an 05 10r with a couple of ££££'s of modifications is just as fast as a Desmosedici.

I would also think that R1's R6's and GSXR's are used, raced and crashed on the track but bikes like the RC45 and 0WO1 are looked after to the highest standard and are rarely pushed to the limits because they are more like show bikes/classics which are often seen but not heard..

Also for the price they cost when new I would hope they are still very good bikes 20 years down the line, in the same way a McLaren F1 is an 18 year old supercar but still arguably the best that money can buy...

BTW..i dont ONLY like bikes for what they look like...but yes..it`s a major deciding factor in my purchases.Whats wrong with that?
If they look good TO ME and then have good power,handling blah blah blah on the test ride....i`ll buy it.

I`m not kicking off.It`s just frustrating how i get verbally chastised just coz i said i dont like these bikes and then replied to someones qestion about their current pricings.

Most modern sports bikes are built as road bikes first and then require turning into race bikes.
For example they come with standard gear boxes and need fitting with close ratio boxes, standard clutch and then converted to dry clutches, suspension with a range suitable for two people not a range suitable for one. The list goes on and on which is why often surprisingly these Homologation specials are as fast and well handling out of the crate as the latest equivalent models but yes they are slower if the road bike has all the bits fettled but not much slower.

Many are but mine was used on the road by me. My last head to head was against an RSV1000 along the Westway, he had a bit of a shock. Part of looking after a bike is to use it in th way it was meant to be used.

Look at the prices of used RC30's, the rarity of OW01's and RK's and just like the McLaren's they retain their prices because they were the best and are still very good 20 years later.

Pah, you want rare try here.

I can see what max power and Sickpup are trying to say. At the end of the day, any bike is only worth what somebody else is willing to pay for it. Max power doesn't wanna pay £10k for a 20 year old sportsbike. It's not his cup of tea. So what? Other peeps out there will pay it, and it'll be worth every penny to that person.
