surround sounding your tv...

I love suround sound with my pc's speakers, but i want HD for my xbox and what i normally do is split off the video to the tv then sound to the pc speakers, with a HDMI cable theres no seperate connecters, so how can i make my tv have surround sound? do i need to buy a tv with surround sound output? or is there a cheaper easier way?

Cool, that is awesome thanks, but i've started looking at tv's haha, do tvs even have surround sound out put on their own or do you need a little base to support it, an ex gfs main tv was set up with surround sound, how was that done? Its something i could never get my head arround.

Surround sound comes from the source, be it broadcast , dvd , blueray or gaming.

Some Tvs output many so called surround effects but its not surround sound.

Most TVs bar the expensive ones have crap sound.

You need to get an AV receiver and 5.1, 6.1, or 7.1 speakers.

The type of receiver you get depends on what it can output in terms of DTS/dolby surround etc and the new HD sound formats.

This speaker and subwoofer package is proven and a steal.

Then match with a av receiver and connect via hdmi to HD TV, and your sorted.

BTW after learning all about it and depsite it being good for a lot of people, im sticking to my two tdl rtl 2 floorstanders and a stereo amp !! although one of the speakers has just broke.
