Insurance - Not registered keeper

Hi,

At the weekend I'll be making a 250 mile trip to hopefully buy a new bike. I'm trying to sort out some insurance for the ride home, but I'm not sure of the logistics here.

It seems I can't get insured on a bike unless I am the registered owner/keeper, and as I wont have that title until I actually make the purchase, I can't take out a policy in preparation.

Is there a way I can have the insurer draft a policy for me and then activate it if/when I make the purchase? Has anyone heard of such a thing?

You can get insurance on a bike that you're not the registered keeper of.

You can easily get the insurance company 'draft' a policy for your (better known as getting a quote) and then you can activate it when you make the purchase by calling them and asking to take the policy out. It's easy.

Just take out a normal policy. Once money exchanges hands and the V5 completed - you are the registered keeper.

Yeah when I did that I just took out a normal policy then as soon as I got there sorted the paperwork then I'm registered keeper, if that makes sense!

Basically just do it as you were, should be fine.

i turned up, like the car, paid and while he was counting the money i borrowed his pc and went onto swift cover and changed the car over... same principle but use the phone for your company.
