Derbi GPR Thumbs Up
But do you really want a race replica 50cc? Confused
They only end up getting scuffed and lose quite a bit of value. If i were you, i'd go for something along the lines of a Derbi Senda. They don't get damaged when you fall off, they hold value nicely and they're very fast for what they are.

The RS50, RS2 Matrix and RX50 all run on the same engines so if its one of those you've got your heart on, go for the cheapest you can find!
Have you considered a cheap scooter?

i second that, senda's aren't really that much slower than the gpr's and don't damage as easily Mr. Green Thumbs Up

i'd go for the GPR, faster than the RS and looks better (in my opinion) also not as common. especially in the youichi Ui replica colours like mine Very Happy They can be picked up with very little wrong for well under a grand. i got mine for £750 and its a 01 plate. Also mine has been quite reliable although there are a cuple of design faults with them.

1, the dummy tank developes a stress crack but its relatively small
2, the petrol tank cover (rear seat) doesnt fit too well but can be modified.
3, The shift shaft will eventually pack in but thats a small cheap job £29.99 for a new one exc VAT. but for one that wont break you can order one from calamari racing that is modified £52 incl delivery and shipping.

Other than that they're a really good bike.
the rs2's are full of problems the motorhispania's are a bit dodgy and the rs50's are too common

I heard the aprilia rx50/mx50/rs50 eat sprockets so probably applies to other 50 geared bikes of the same Category, my mates has a mx50 and he's been through 6 sets in the last year, it went through the first 3 when it was restricted, also the build quality is pants and is falling apart but probably just the way he treats it.

The geared 50's tend to be a lot more hastle and require more maintenance, the 50 automatics are a lot less hastle and more reliable, maybe a tad slower but what's 5mph (derestricted). As said above the AY50's (katana) are good bike's. I just got a speedfight when i was 16 as i was just looking forward to getting a 125, a few of my mates like i said before got a brand new aprilia mx50 and rs50's and were chuffed because they could just about manage to beat me on a long straight but the thing is they're still paying them off on finance and buy the time they do and get a 125 i will be on a 600 Laughing .

The TS is 3 bhp, very little power at all and barely do more than 35mph even when de-restricted. They look like lovely bikes though. My mate had one and it was great fun to ride as i'm particularly fond of old school style enduro bikes.

None of the 50cc sports bikes are reliable. If you want reliable get a twist and go Wink

or a ts50

i've had a go on alot of geared 50's (most of my mates have em all lol). a few things i noted were, the feel of a sports rep 50 does not feel as fast on acceleration than a crosser, although they are the same, the debris are not as fast on acceleration as the mineralli am6 engines (ie, rs50 rx50 all the riejus moshphina's to) but the gear box in the am6 engines are terrible, clutch is horrible and there is a neutral in between every gear. but they do have a lot of top end. generally depending of weather, the sports bikes will have 1 or perhaps 2 mph on the crossers top speed but very hard to judge as the crossers get there much faster. if you ever take it on private land to practise things like wheelies and stopies sport bikes are no good. 1 more thing, a sports rep will look sweet when its standing still, but you will get laughed at as soon as the engine is started, crossers with a decent exhaust sound alright and how they are meant to when started up even though they don't have the sports look. 50's reliable? not a chance, but you will find that you engine is the bit (well am6 engines anyway) which is least likely to break, you will always eat though chain and sprockets when derestricted and restricted and you will probably find a load of niggly little things which goes wrong but they all add up in the end. hope this helps in some way.

p.s sorry about the long read :/

1 more thing i forgot to add, (like the answer to your question (duh)) there is no best 50, they are all about the same with slight differences. everyone who tells you the rs50 is the faster with 1230 mph or the rx is super quick and they get like 3000mph out of it etc etc is all bs. no standard 50cc bike will do more than 50-55 mph real speed flat landing, as the clocks are so far out (my rieju spike for instance says i'm doing 60 even though its achully just under 50mph or so). so go for looks or type of riding style, if your tall or want to travel far, crosser. if you want looks to show off to the girlies, go for a sports rep.

I have an 2002 aprilia rs 50 and trust me there is nothing wrong with them apart from one thing which is:
It has not got a fuel gauge which is not that much of a problem.
i have had it nearly a year and i have had no break downs or needed anything replacing and the top speed is 65mph because my dad who has a honda vfr 800 has followed me and he said that i was doing 65mph according to his speedo. Very Happy
The other 50cc bike are good but they are not as drool worthy.

They no longer make the best 50cc which is the honda C50 (three million Chinese can't be wrong). Indestructable, 45mph (real life, not just on the clocks) and due to its age, it is actually LEGAL for a 16 year old to own doing that speed. Mind boggling fuel economy, readily available parts for pennies (full OE gasket set is nine quid), three speed semi-auto box, cheaper than dirt to insure (classic if you get the right one) and does wheelies Smile

Downsides, percieved as uncool by anyone under 20 who has never ridden one (but you'll learn), crap brakes, leading link suspension.

to me it all depends if you are looking at moving up to a bigger machine soon
however uncool as stinkwheel says a c50 is really comfy, indistructructable and you get a good return money wise for the bike at the end. you have to consider the residual value at the end, and how much insurance etc it will sting you, especially if wanting to upgrade in one year. Save the money for latter bike iof dreams, one day you will have the MV or whatever you dream
i have made the mistake of paying too much money at start and cannot afford anything good later on

my two pennath anyway

its always the same, the bike will be as reliable as you treat it, 2 stroke so warm it up,good oil etc, derbis r faster in stock mode, bigger carb than rs but plastic r cheap and tacky, parts may be difficult 2! rs50's r slow well the new ones anyway, get a 2000 model!

Personally i would go for the RX50. It looks like a dirt bike and goes like one too. I honestly cant see the point of a 50 that looks like a sportsbike. slap all the fairing you want on it and the crappest 125 you can find will still wipe the floor with it.
At least Peds/dirt bikes/commuter types just look like they are trying to get somewhere, rather than trying to show off with their arse in the air at 30mph with L plates on.
