Hi

I have put a new exhaust on my bike (Scorpion) its not a full system, just a slip on. Do I need to inform the insurance?

Cheers Tom

Some companies are bothered and some aren't. Who are you with?

If they ask you does it increase the power the answer is no. Thumbs Up Laughing

Ok, OFFICIALY if this exhaust improves preformance and makes the bike go faster you need to inform insurance, your premium will likely go up as more power-more chance you'll crash and die, more chance people you crash into will die too.

On unofficial note no one gives a shit, as long as its not too louds you'll be fine

OFFICIALY it is a modification as should be declared, unofficialy the insurance company would probably be surprised to find an original can after a claim Laughing

I'd only really worry if you want to claim for it if the bike gets stolen.
It always amuses me you can tell the insurance companies about race exhausts, which means you're telling your insurance company you're riding an illegal bike Confused.

I'm with H&R insurance and I don't think that it adds any more power and its not stupidly loud with the Baffle in.

it will give them an excuse to not pay out in a claim, if you do have a claim then id defo put the standard can back on before they inspect the bike.

i currently have the standard can on mine but do also have a scorpian with a not for road use stamped on it that i may stick on, this bike is the only one ive had that ive kept totally standard, as thought id be legit for once lol but dont like having a quiet can that car's dont hear so prob stick the race can on soon, im also with H&R...

They'd have a hard time proving it caused an accident.

no thats true, but it would in the eyes of the law make the bike not road legal and that would invalidate the insurance especially if you haven't declared to them that you had it fitted. wouldnt it ?

Mines got a road legal stamp on it so i would think it would be fine, hopefully lol. If you do have to claim how long do you usually have before they come to inspect the bike?

No, it would not invalidate the insurance, though it can be read like that, that's not the way the law works.
