Long story short, I've got a chain and padlock which quite heavy to put in my backpack and I think it's a little dangerous too. How do you guys carry you're locks?

I bought a cargo net but the chain slides around too much

Wrap it around the luggage rack or put it in a top box, or wrap it over the back seat, threading it up/over/to/from the luggage mounting bars/grab rails?

I used to wear one like a Sam Brown belt over one shoulder. Not a good idea as it bashed my tank induring an emergency stop.

Put it in a tankbag or strong canvas bag of some sort and cargo net it to the seat, which I think is more secure than a tail pack, and stops it moving around.

I found a cargo net didn't hold my lock on very well and it slid around loads.

A bungee strap held it on much better and it never moved an inch.

It would depend on how loose your cargo net is I suppose, and what bike/seat your attaching it to. I find a cargo net is much more secure than one bungee.

Mine goes around my luggage rack but you could totally chain it around your front forks if you're particularly feeling brave Thumbs Up

^ is what I do. I just use the very bottom section of my tank bag, rather than the whole thing, so it's not intrusive or anything

I usually just pop mine in my backpack but if I have no room in there (like the other day when I was carrying a wireless router in it) I just hung it diagonally across my chest. It helps make you look more intimidating when you want to intimidate other motorists and generally cause mischief and mayhem.

Get one of these from Hein Gericke and just leave it permanantly on the seat. Straps on nice and tight, doesn't move around at all. Not waterproof, but you'd only be keeping a lock in it.

I happen to wear massively padded jacket, a back support and have a sponge bag lol.
I have come off with it before, had an xbox360 in the bag, no damage to me or xbox..bag was damaged, but its specially designed to be used on a bike.

Cost like £45 on ebay.

An xbox 360 has a greater surface area and is weaker than your back.

A chain has small contact points with your back and is going to do you some damage.

Don't kid yourself that it cannot hurt you because your xbox didn't. If the xbox was fine then I'd put a bet on it being a pretty minor off in the first place.

Do not be as foolish as to carry it over your shoulder, if you fall off it could easily smash your collarbone and maybe a couple of ribs/other bones.
