During the last 20 minuets of the football match I played yesterday I started getting a sharp stabbing pain in the side of my leg, now 24 hours later it's still there and slightly more painful.

I'm used to picking up injuries but most of the time it will be aches and pains witch dispensary after a few days. This time the pain is like no other I have felt, it's not like your normal muscle pain it's a sharp stabbing like pain. I can sit still in any position and not feel it at all, but as soon as I start to walk and use that leg the sharp pain kicks in!

The pain is located at the side of my leg around the knee area.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Tendons?

I would expect a trapped nerve to give pain even when not using the leg

Did you have and blows to the knee or any lateral movement from say a tackle? It sounds like you may have moved it in a wrong direction and caused a tendon or cartilage inflammation.

I have had similar and it only hurt to walk on it. Was sore for about 5 days and no footie for a weeks. Obviously I have only done it mildly and you can seriously fuck yourself up - but then I guess you would know if you had.

I have used Voltorol (sic) which I think is a anti-inflammatory pain killer and has always worked for me.

Non that I can really remember?

I think like you have said above it's lightly to be tendon or cartilage inflammation, it's just a little worrying because I have never had a pain like this and I was hoping to be fit for next weeks game.... I guess it's just a question of waiting and hoping my body sorts itself out.

Cheers
