What would you consider to be high mileage?

Obviosly certain types of bikes do better than others, just wondering how long before I need to start worrying really, my current bike is on 84,000, doing way over two thousand miles a month though so its adding up pretty quickly!

Whats the highest mileage you have seen out of one of your bikes?

My bikes a 1989 honda ntv600 by the way, so not really highly strung.

That's doing damn well, i can't answer your question but for some odd reason i have in my head that 20k for a bike is a lot, always thought 70k for bikes was considered good?

I saw another one of my bike, well a bros, pretty much the same thing, had 112,000, there was a harley or something that did something stupid, 300,000 or something, but that had a replacement engine or two.

I guess I should clarify and say highest mileage before having to spend major money on keeping it going.

20k is nothing IMO, all of my bikes have been over that with the exception of my ts50.

it doesn't matter how much mileage is on a bike its down to how well its been maintained you can have a bike thats got like 120k on the clock and be almost as good as one thats had 20k on the clocks

Whilst I agree with the above to an extent, some mileages are a bit scary to see on a bike and would put me off buying one Laughing

There's no one answer to this, entirely depends on the bike. Both my bikes have similar mileage, the CBR has slightly higher mileage (37,000) but I consider it lowish, the XT has lower mileage but I consider it high (32,000)...if you see what I mean Laughing

Does totally depend on price and type of bike.
A sports bike will have been raped by youngsters, and has a higher tuned than a commuter that may have been driven relatively sensibly by a middle aged man.
I would buy a sports up to about 35k, commuter up to 60k as I'd want to be getting at least another 30k out of it before it went to the scrappy.
That's just my opinion of course, and I've never rode a bike till it died.
My 125 only has 11k on it and my 600 has about 20k. Thumbs Up Plenty of life left in them hopefully.

Pretty much killed my GPZ, think that's just below 40k, that was down to me, rather than the bike though, it's still sitting in my garden, i'll fix it some time Laughing

Currently have 46k on the ZX6, still sounds and performs as it did when i bought it with 29k.

XJ has 54k, also runs well.

I just keep the oil changes regular (about every 5-6k miles).

I have done about 200 miles over summer. Laughing
I've only done 3k myself since January, but since uni ended I've crashed the bike once, offroad for a few weeks and then only done a couple of miles into town for things.
Uni starting Tuesday though. Time to put some man hours on the bastard.

Camchain should be changed on the Pan at 90k so they're expected to live a long life.

Current CBR has 17,500 on. I've had that from 0 and still seems as good as it was when I got it.

Last CBR I got with 12,000 on it and took it to about 22,000. The clutch on that 'occasionally' slipped but only at absolute full tilt, was still a bit concerning if it caught you off guard though.

CBR before that left me with ~45k on, I got it at about 25k and that was spot on when it left apart from electrical niggles with the Indicators.

My 600 has got about 34K on it at the moment, and I've done 4K of that since buying it in February. The 125 has got 2.5K on it, which is all me, and I've had it since July 08.

It's not just the engine though, you have to think about suspension units, bushes, steering bearings etc. They all wear out and can be horribly expensive to fix.

And thats before the electrical gremlins kick in.

I had a ZZR1100C1, 1990 with 39000 miles oin it. I felt fine to me, but a mate got a later one with only 14000 miles on it and when I tried it I realised my swing arm bearings and shock or linkage was totally fcuked.

I would have cost as much as the bike was worth to get it all done so I sold it, but the engine was still totally superb.

I got my bike on Monday 13th July an it had 11,000 miles on it exactly. It's got 14,500 on it today. I've covered about 1,750 miles over the past two months. I don't even commute, it's just from riding it so much.

Going to be selling it in about 5 weeks time so want to keep the miles to a minimum now.

I wouldn't buy a 2nd bike with more than 25k on the clock max.

Bought my bandit with 24000 miles, now has 36000 miles and is mechanically sound. Bought my thundercat with 16500 miles, now at 18000 and also perfectly fine. I dont thrash my bikes everywhere though and do keep up with all the servicing times etc so expect them to last a fair bit longer too.
