Well I say new the last bike I owned was 1977 so I suppose I am new I have started of small with a Yamaha ybr125 and when I have got my head round bike riding again I hope to get a bit bigger but so far I am loving it. Hope to make some friends in here.

I only got my Bike yesterday so still taking it all in at the moment certainly more traffic to cope with and I also feel that the roads seem greasy its hard to explain but the benefits are great were we are there allways seems to be traffic jams and roadworks so to just ride up the outside to the front of the cue is heaven.

I'm not really sure what you mean by greasy could you be talking about the ride and suspension quality and feel in comparison to a car on your 125? The way it feels when you turn, accelerate and brake.... or do you need to change your tires IMMEDIATELY?

My bike definitely feels like it's sticking to the roads quite firmly at all times. Although, on more bumpy roads I guess I could understand what you mean without four points of traction.

It seems greasy on well used parts of the road where the cars seem to smooth out the Tarmac.

Hi mate, like you I'm back to biking after many tears away, I dont have any problems with grip, have to admit it took a couple of hours on the bike again to refamiliarize myself with how a bike feels in comparition to a car after so long of not riding. I do think though that the quality of our roads has certainly gone downhill and is more noticable on a bike, uneven surface's, potholes, ridges etc. Give it a bit of time as if your like me and think about it, its on your mind all the time, once you relax you forget about it get used to it without realising and subconsciously take note and process your riding to the road conditions.

Hello and welcome back to bikes.

At least you haven't gone out and hopped on an R1 or something equally as daft...starting back out on a smaller ride, is a more sensible option. Good for you.

As for the roads feeling 'greasy' this may be down to the bike, they have much different weight specs these days - much lighter, plus the tyres might not be as square as the ones you were used to in the '70's.

The more you get out and about, the more you'll get used to these changes (oh and the fact that there are more cars, less indication and more hazards these days). Oh and you won't get away with the obligatory denim jacket...as the safety nazi's will be onto you quick smart...
