Just a couple of random thoughts that have cropped up recently.

If my bike is on someone's trailer and they crash would my bike be covered on their insurance?

And could not wearing leathers/protective gear be used to reduce a compensation claim in the event of injury?

I would think i twould be covered under there third party insurance?

Not to sure though.

The second question, I spose they could argue that you weren't wearing the proper gear but after all leathers and armour aren't legally required by law so it shouldn't make a difference.

Just my Penny Coin Penny Coin

[edit] just relised I mean't to say aren't instead of are Wink [/edit]

I'd like to know the definitive answer to the former, cos if it is then it makes more sense to put your bike on someone else's trailer and their bike on yours. Confused

I always imagined it wouldn't be covered, but then I never realised that the occupants of the car could be the third party - I'd always assumed that by choosing to be in the vehicle, they'd waived all rights to claim anything.

I didn't think leathers and armour were required by law I thought the only item required by law was a helmet.

Indeed - all that's required is a helmet.

I know thats all thats required, but could it be argued that if you're not wearing leathers etc. you're putting yourself at more risk and so reduce your compo?

TC - any input/experiance?

I think it would be more of a case of 'looking better' if you can say I was wearing full leathers which is above and beyond the legal requirements.

Hi,
In contents of a trailer are not covered on most policys. The driver will be covered for damage the trailer does to third parties.
So you would not be covered for your own bike.

I dont think you would be covered for someone elses as the bike is in your care. They may not be able claim of their insurance either, as the bike was in the care of someone else.

Of course it can vary with each policy but best not to assume

Regards

Charlotte
