Hi,
i searched but found nothing on this...
Is there a reason most bikes dont have hazard light system on, and what is peoples opinion on them?
I was looking at getting a switch and relay, and wiring my own up as ive had a couple of 'incidents' where something like that would have been helpful Smile

Some bikes do have hazards as standard.

The only bike I've had that had them was a ZZR.

My Fazer has them and can't say that I use them much.

The only occasion I've found them useful is filtering on the motorway when traffic is heavy, but apart from that...

Only bike I've had them on is the current RR I have...

They've came in handy a couple of times when hooning off to find a load of stopped/slowing cars/seeing police on a rideout or needing to break quickly.

Just lets you alert stuff behind a little...

Mostly useless though I think.

Without them before I've flicked left/right/left/right a couple of times to achieve the same thing.

The only time I could see them being useful is when approaching rapidly slowing/stationary traffic on a motorway.

I usually wave my left arm up and down in a "slowing down or stopping" handsignal under these circumstances.

The other situation is if sat at the rear of a queue of standing traffic. This is a position I never put myself in these days after having a VERY close call to being the filling in a car sandwich a few years ago. When a mondeo came to a halt sideways about four inches away from the car I'd been sat behind. Luckily I'd heard the tyres screaming as he locked up and spun out and dived the bike up onto the verge.

These days I filter along the centre divider or hard shoulder so I have a couple of cars worth of "buffer" behind me before stopping.

I've got my theory test in a couple of weeks, and whilst reading through the DSA Theory test book, i'm amazed how many questions have "use hazard lights" as an option for the answer..

i didn't know of any recent bikes that have hazards on them..

this must be the one thing i've learnt today !!!!

It is useful to say "thank you" to bikers who give me way(filtering gap).

So no-one would find them useful for the purpose they were intended for - when you've broken down!? Confused Laughing

Sat in traffic Confused.

Anyway, I wired some up on my zx9 to a) say 'thanks' to people that moved over and b) make myself more visible when filtering in some circumstances (need to make sure they don't just see one and think you're turning... though having indicators the length of my bar muffs probably helps!).

The situation I had in mind (where I nearly got taken out) was a set of temporary traffic lights on a two-way A-road. I landed up at the back because the light was on red and traffic was coming through from the other direction.

The car had come bombing along to the end of the dual carriageway, dropped to single lane, came round the corner and saw a queue of standing traffic. He threw out the anchor and lost it. Wasn't a problem with the traffic lights, there was plenty of signeage, he was doing well over the ton when he came round the corner.

My bike ( Varadero 1000) has hazards, the switch that used to do your headlights on and off is now used for your hazards on my bike.
As for the use of Hazards........... well you will need to ask Kickstart as he seems to know everything about the roads even if you are right you will need to wait for Keith to deem it so. Rolling Eyes

My bike's not got them but my alarm has a hazard lights function. Probably useful if I ever break down. And remember how the hell to get them on!
