Yamaha Motor Company., Ltd and Yamaha Motor Europe N.V. have announced that an agreement has been concluded with Ben Spies for his participation with Yamaha for 2010 and 2011. The program foresees a season in 2010 with the Yamaha World Superbike Team based in Gerno di Lesmo, Italy and a switch to Yamaha's satellite MotoGP team for 2011.

Interesting, so Toesland will be riding for Yamaha in WSB next year, bit of a demotion but I think thats probably his best bet, rather then doing another year in GP batteling for 11th/12th place.
There are some great Sbk riders that just arent cut out for GP, Bayliss and Haga for example.

Ps- Big_Ham, I didn't see your post in 'Biking News' as thats the the gayest section of the forum, post in in one of the more straight sections next time Thumbs Up Wink

I wouldn't say Bayliss wasn't cut out for gp racing imo.

He had a decent rookie year, but then two disasterous years after that!
Then a freak wildcard win in 2006 after moving back to WSB when he had nothing to lose.

Still a decent enough GP career, but massively overshadowed by his SBK achievements.

I hope Haga wins, for several reasons:

1. He has been so close, so many times.
2. He has provided an awesome amount of entertainment over the years with his lunatic riding style.
3. If Spies wins, the Yanks will think that AMA (which he won before) is a credible series...
4. I dislike the idea of Spies pitching up for a season, winning it, and then buggering off in a kind of "Well, that was easy" type way.

For the record, I don't think Spies will fare much better than Toseland in GPs. I think he will be better, but not by much. People forget that he's already ridden in MotoGP (albeit as a stand in for three rounds) and he didn't set the place alight.

I agree completely (Even though I haven't been following bike racing for long Embarassed ) The way that Haga manages to turn that Ducati is unbelievable, It was a bit annoying last weekend when Fabrizio took the race win Mad

I admit Spies does seem like a good rider but I just don't like him, I don't know why but I don't Laughing

Now that I don't get!

Don't get me wrong, I'd love for Haga to win for many reasons similar to those of Silver's.... plus, it's just his turn!

But Spies has come over and ridden his tits off, never blamed the bike, never blamed the team, never had a whinge about other riders actions, even when he could have easily done that. He seems like an excellent rider, with an excellent workmanlike attitude, always thankful for those behind the scenes who's hard work allows him do go out there and do his job. I'm really good at not liking people, but I can't bring myself to not like him.

Having said that...... C'mon Haga! Thumbs Up

Moto Gp seems to suit guys coming up through 125, 250's more than Superbike guys especially with the 800cc bikes...

think he'll fare same as Edwards, reasonable results but who cares if your 5th or 10th, being on the podium is all that matters...

Anyway, what about his riding style..... with the elbows... looks like he's riding with his sphincter locked up....
