Hi, I've just been advised that I am going to get £1,500 from the 3rd party's insurers for my old bike. I am prepared to chuck in an extra £500 of my own cash as I was already thinking about upgrading.

I'm pretty open minded as to what I get but would probably steer clear of sports bikes.

So, if you had this money to spend, what would you buy?

If you provide links to current models for sale and some pros and cons, that would be even better.

Pity you want to steer clear of sportsbikes, the SRAD 600 for sale on this forum is a good buy!!!

Having had the cb500 and knowing what it's like, I would probably look to get an sv650 (cheap to buy, questionable finish but plenty of spares about, great mpg, sound ace if not slower than the rest), hornet 600(lovely smooth power but a bland ride, cheap parts and oversized tyres tbh) or an older fazer (has a fairing as standard, reliable, not awesome mpg but ok, getting cheaper to buy these days). £1500 max as the price of bikes should be dropping as we enter winter.

Now if you gave me £2000, I'd buy barkbusters hand guards, braided lines, ermax hugger, gel seat, bigger top box, garmin zumo gps, engine bars, scottoiler touring pack and the rest for fuel money. Mr. Green

This is the direction I think I'm heading, I'm 6' 4" so would like something a bit taller and I reckon a single would be ideal for my needs.

Still, there's a million different bikes out there and I'm prepared to be swayed.

I'd buy a muscle bike if I didn't have one already. (I know of a blue XJR13SP going for offers over 2k)

So, probably an off roader. Although I wouldn't have one if I didn't have a road bike as well.

Saw that Duke at Budget Bikes earlier, it's not too far from me, I'm in Bristol, if it's still available when the cheque arrives, I might just go down there.

I suppose I could pop down there this weekend and put a deposit on it...

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

CB500: Fun to ride, cheap to run, best commuter by a long shot, engine will take anything you can throw at it.

Pretty indestructable until some twat drives into it.

Had mine for four years and loved the way I new exactly how it would behave in any situation (no surprises).

If you're looking for a winter hack, look no further - I've got a Cat B wreck you can have for £200 Wink

ZX9.

I can't justify it at the minute, but I'll have one of them next. You can get fairly decent but older ones for around 2 grand.

Wow, that's a lot of bike for the money!

Still, not really what I'm looking for.

Have been doing some searching around this evening and I'm moving towards:

Aprilia Pegaso
KTM Duke
KTM SM
Africa Twin (very expensive!)

Also considering a Yamaha XT660
