Riding round a bumpy roundabout this morning all of a sudden, a bang and a skid, look back and the top box has shot off and gone for a Burton!?

After pulling over and dodging traffic to collect it, it would appear that the base plate has shattered in 2 and the vibrations on the daily commute must have been too much.

The question then was what the hell to do with it? Thankfully I had only just left so it was placed on the tank and a careful ride home ensued.

Thankfully it didn't come off at speed.

Anyone else rode along only to realise that they're missing something?

My exhaust heat-shield went walkies once. I came off the motorway to hear this clattering, checked in my mirror to see a bit of metal on the road, assumed I had ridden over it. Filled up with petrol 40 miles later to see my heat shield was missing. Laughing

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

I use Rok-straps (they're great) to bungie stuff to the pillion seat occasionally when I can't be bothered with the tank bag.

This lead to me losing my entire lunch in a tupperware tub in the fast lane of the M27.

Is it me or do other people have problems with the phrase they're great followed by losing a tupperware tub?

So, in summary, not that great.

User error? Confused

Smile Well, quite.

Even something as great as a rok-strap is not immune to people like me who don't tighten them up properly.

i had a hole my original ts50 tank, so bought another, taking the spare to my dads after it arrived in the post (2 miles up the road) i realised when i got there that the tank was missing Shocked went back 3/4 mile and saw it laying by the side of the road, perfectly fine, apart from one big dent on the corner and on the filler neck Laughing sanded it, slapped some filler on and sprayed it ford electric monza blue and its all good Smile the only thing wrong with it is the TSXR sticker i made for it Embarassed

Lost a top box a couple of times - doing 40+ over harsh speed bumps wasn't quite it's style (was on a KLR650 so the bike was fine doing it.)
Dusty once lost one of my TRX850 exhausts, though I believe he recovered it (I had made it clear he'd have to re-tighten the exhaust /before/ borrowing the bike Rolling Eyes.

I have lost a top box before....

Dammed quick release failed. Thankfully car behind managed to stop before running over it.

So now i never rely on the quick release, just bolt the box to the base plate.

Just a packet of toilet rolls.

Went to Tesco on the CG, realised I'd forgotten my bag so bought some of their bungee cords. Got out to the carpark and noticed that the bungee cords were, shall we say, overly-long for the CG's slim rear end, so looked at the clearance of the body work-rear wheel and cunningly (or so I thought,) wrapped the bungees around twice.

Pootled off home only to be stopped at a junction by someone telling me that the loo rolls had bounced off the back at the last roundabout.
Cue my 'walk of shame' through rush hour traffic to collect my 'bum-rub' from the centre of a busy roundabout. The friction of the wheel against the bungee cord had burnt through it.

Note to self: Don't forget that the suspension lowers once someone is sitting on the seat. Doh!

Hi

Lost a pair of shoes off the back once (bungied to the pillion seat). They had been run over a few times when I found then, but were strangely more comfortable afterwards.

Almost lost a bike off a bike trailer once when a tie down strap snapped.

All the best

Keith
