Due an oil change and looking at what oils are out there.

Last change I did I used Motul 5100 (10/40 semi/synth) but not sure what had been used prior to that. As I havn't tried any other oils out there on this bike I'm not sure whether I should just stick with the Motul?

Has anyone got any recommendations on which brand and type to use, I use the bike mainly for a 25m round trip commute everyday if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance Thumbs Up

all oils are very very similar. virtually no difference between viscosity level even between the bike and car specific oils in which the bike specific oils are more expensive. after all oil is oil, with slightly different additives which are designed to increase longevity.
if you didn't have any problems stick the motul or whatever is cheaper.

I always use Silkolene 10w/40 Comp 4 semi-synthetic in my R6. It is what the Yamaha dealer used to use in it when it was new and when it was dealer serviced. I have carried on with the same stuff. As long as you buy a bike specific oil from a half decent maker then you can't really go wrong. Thumbs Up

As said, any half decent semi-synth in the proper weight will be fine for that bike.

To be fair it's only if you're racing them you need fancy oils.

More importantly than buying "bike-specific" oil is to make sure you don't use a car specific oil, like "Magnatec", as some have stuff in that can cause clutch problems. (Or so people say; Never wanted to find out for myself!)

Been useing Rock oil 'guardian' in my J1 ZX6 the past few changes. Seems to quieten down the tapping from the valves Laughing
