I nearly cried today

Well about 3 1/2 months ago i bought a new Bridgestone BT90 rear for my NC30. Was the same as the bike came with and i was pleased with them when i bought the bike so decided to stick to them.

Well after £110 spent on the tyre, 3 1/2 months and just above 6000KMs later i had a little look closer look at my rear wheel today and noticed that the tread was already worn down to the worn out marker! Its only got like 1.5mm tread left!

To me it just seems absurd that the tire has worn that much in under 4000 miles! Burnt a f00kin hole in my pocket.
I do go on the motorway each day but its only 1 junction (4-5 miles?) so wouldnt have thought it would wear out that much.

Think next time ill get the BT92 instead, its a harder compound isnt it?
I mean its a very good tyre but if its wearing out that much id rather not!

That's not too bad compared to what some will be getting from their rear tyres.
You can get a good few more miles by being restrained in your acceleration when you don't need it - that's what scrubs it off as much as miles on the motorway at steady speed .

I had the same feeling today too. £111 for a rear Conti trail attack fitted. got 6k miles out of it and was down to the last mm. lasted 12 months to the day, a quiet year this year.

4000 miles, ,i used to be lucky to get half that out of an 014 on my blade,TBH the 090's on the 400 were less than 2000 miles aswell.

That's pretty good. 090s last at best, 2000 miles before they need changing. I find they noticeably flatten off not much after 1000 miles. But you're talking about one of the stickiest tyres available for a 400, they certainly weren't designed for mileage.

BT92s aren't a bad tyre, you'll certainly get better durability over the 090, but I find the profile of them too shallow - at large angles of lean they seem to suddenly let go...good for winter/motorway work though.

4K aint so bad for a tyre, especially when you compare it to the standard D218 that are on my Bandit. After 2,000 miles the rear is virtually shot.

I used to destroy an 014 in about 2k miles on a CBR6, I bet I could do it in under a 1000 on the Hayabusa.

Look on the bright side, I once had to throw away a 3 day old 014 because of an irrepairable puncture. Now thats a good old fashioned kick in the knackers.

If you were expecting a lot more out of the rear then check your suspension is set up correctly as this can add to tire wear quite a bit.

yh, the NC30 has 18" rear so tyres dont come with much choice.
Well from the looks of it 4k aint too bad, but being an apprentice thats paid UNDER minimum wage iv got a wallet tighter than a ducks arse.

If i was only using the bike on weekends i spose i would be happy with 4k but doing 50mile day commute shreds them.

Was just talking to my dad and he said if i pass my car test next time i have it (27th oct) hell buy me a new back tyre Cant remember the last time he bought me anything (must be in a good mood for some strange reason)
I failed my first test about 3 weeks ago so just hope i pass this time.

Why don't you get a longer lasting rear tyre?

Have a look around, you should be able to get tyres that will last double the miles, you will sacrifice some grip on the rear, but if your using the bike for mainly commuting then its not a massive issue. The only reason I get tyres that run out so quickly is because my bike is only really track and fast road, no commuting!
