Cleaning textiles.

Hi,

How should I be cleaning my textiles?
What should I be using?

My Hein G Daylight jacket shows up crap easily and the back is especially lashed with road muck.

I`ve used NikWax Tech wash on it which did very little, the back is still plastered.
Is there anything stronger I can use without damaging the waterproof layer? (sheltex)

Erm a washing machine? dont remove armour you will find it hard to get back in again.

If you wash them in a Washing Machine, take all removable armour out, take the liner out (wash with normal clothes) and:

Wash on a cold setting.
Turn off the Spin.

That should not damage the waterproof membrane. If using nikwax, follow instructions on that as I am not sure if you need to use a slow spin cycle with it.

A lazier way is to just rinse them using the shower and a brush.....

If it's just the inside you want to freshen up all I've ever done with mine is wipe the insides down with some anti-septic wipes and sprayed Fabreeze down them and left them to hang overnight, outside has never really gotten that dirty but if they have I just wipe them over with baby wipes... I washed my Hein Gericke Craig jacket, which has a Sheltex lining, on a delicate wash in the washing machine because it was minging after a years riding and pissing it up at rallies.
It now leaks like a seive in the rain.

Take the armour out.

Hand wash using soap flakes (detergents may damage waterproofing)
in luke warm water. (Might require 2 washes if very dirty.)

Rinse off until clear of suds.

Drip-dry on a hanger.

you can get water proofing sprays to redo the seams etc but the one i tried seemed to be hair spray (or at least thats what it smelt like) they are surposed to block up the gaps between the fibres or some faf.
