I remember a bit back someone on the radio (possibly BBC 5 live) was talking about EU consumer rules.
From what I recall your contract is with the shop, not the manufacturer. I think it was electronic goods mainly. So when they say return it to Sony, Canon, Hotpoint, etc. they're wrong. They have to deal with the issue(s). Another point was that goods have to have a reasonable life. So if over one year and fails then they still have to repair. My memory thinks this even applied to mobile phones.
I remember the presenter even read out the number of the relevant eu guideline/rule/whatever. As I was in the car I couldn't actually write this down for reference. Searched the BBC site and can't find a thing.
Trouble is I can't find anything more about this. I've tried google but got lost in the results. Maybe my search criteria was off?
Anyway, can anyone help me with this?
I need it for a complaint, be nice to quote.
Thanks in anticipation
FWIW I'm normally wary about the EU and their regulations. However, I guess if it's to my benefit I'll use whatever I can. If I can't then expect me to gripe about it as well I'm not being two faced about this, I've always been consistent in looking after number one. ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...

You are correct, the retailer has the responsibility, not the manufacturer.
However, sometimes when you are referred to the manufacturer it is in your best interests, for instance if an engineer is to visit it is easier to arrange a suitable day without the 3rd party. Or in lower cost items the manufacturer may replace quicker than the retailers guidlines would allow. Basically you need to look at each "potential" refferal on its own merits, ie is it best for the customer.
Additionally goods must be fit for purpose, and if you can prove the goods are initially substandard then the 1 yr guarrantee time limit may not apply. A fine example of this is the xbox 360, where microsoft had numerous claims due to the red rings, so increased the guarrantee for this to 3 years.
Google for SOGA, you should find all the info you need. ____________________ Fallen Angel "Nae sniffing my seat now!!!!! "
