 |
|
Having owned a few naked bikes including recently a 900 hornet, bandit and a fire bolt. Ive owned a 900 ninja for the last year. However, I want back on a naked asap. It just suits me more. So Im thinking Z1000. Id like a speed triple but am worried about reliability, a tuano wud also be good but again part costs worry me. Any opinions?? Oh I cant afford a cb1000r, so thats outa the question. ____________________ Stand up paddle surfing wales Caravan decking wales |

I only had the firebolt for 3 months over one summer, intentionally!! Its only good point was its looks and sounds. I just know a few locals that have had probs with triples, even brand new ones. I really would like one tho. Any more opinions much appreciated, thanks ____________________ Stand up paddle surfing wales Caravan decking wales |

A mate of mine has one and I rode it from Kent to Southampton for him when we picked it up. It's pretty good, although the lack of fairing annoyed me, and has a decent amount of power through the rev range. The clocks take a bot of getting used to but on the plus side you can get some pretty coloured LEDs and change the colours of the tacho and speedo at will.
He hasn't had any problems with his, although the finish is not the best and requires some work to keep it looking nice. It's pretty easy to hoist the front wheel on, although he has now fitted a Power Commander that gives smoother power, or so he says. He has aftermarket cans as well, which sound pretty nice, although I do like the 4 cans of the older models.
Cheers

Yes, that'll be me then.
I went for the Z1000(06) because I like the way it looks. It's got about as much fairing on it as I can stomach on a bike (ok, a bellypan does look rather nice) and it's suprisingly small (I have short legs). Having practically no screen keeps you from accidentally cruising up to 100+mph, but will go on to just over 155(indicated) if you want.
Paint is coming off the engine, it eats tyres, and the suspension is somewhat agricultural on occaison (compared with a sportier bike) but I find it great for fun, commuting, and the occaisonal 3-4 day tour in any conditions. If anything, it feels more planted with luggage on the back.
Bit of a dead spot around 5k rpm (I belive it's on purpose for emissions testing) but get above 7-8k (redline is ~11k) and it leaps out your hands. The nice wide bars makes it a piece of piss around town. Be sure to change the exhaust though, had the original "tuning fork" exhausts and the sound of the bike was a real let down. Much better once I put another can on it, and although I'm getting out of my depth technically, getting rid of the catalytic converter probably helps the engine breath a little better. ____________________ Professional Uberslacker
