Anyone have any experience with this?

Before anyone asks this is just an option at the moment as I have no money and an NSR that's left ruined after I hit a deer. I need transport but can't take a loan out and a friend mentioned this option, hence coming here for advice. I know this is highly illegal!

I currently have third party only insurance, it's being renewed at the end of this month. Obviously I hit a deer so the insurance company isn't going to pay for it, no chance in hell.
If I was to change my insurance at the end of the month to a Third party fire and theft policy then dump the bike in a field somewhere with the steering lock broken, all the wiring tampered with and the locks broken. What do I do then? Phone up the insurance and claim my bike is stolen? Phone up the police as well I'm guessing?

I never thought I'd sink to doing something like this but I urgently need transport and if anyone has had any success with this I'm curious. If I have the balls to do it or not is another thing entirely.

You are unlikely to get away with such measures & if found out face prison...in short (sorry to be blunt) but don't be stupid!! Rolling Eyes

You get ready to go to jail for fraudulent behaviourness Thumbs Up Aslong as you 'stole' it properly (made a realistic job of it) then you would probably get away with it. But make sure you set it on fire and take some pics (with you in them).
I think your a cock by the way if you do this as this is yet another reason why my insurance excess/cost will go up.

You wouldn't get away with it for the simple reason that enough of your mates know about your accident already, and one of them would say something to the coppers or to another mate or parent.

None of my mates really know about the crash to be honest, I live in a place surrounded by illiterate chavs and I avoid them all.

I would repair the NSR but I lack the skill to do so, it's lost one side of fairings, both indicators, the back brake pedal has snapped off and a the exhaust has snapped at the bottom. If I knew how to repair these things I would have been on it in a heart beat! Smile

Lets see...
Wasting police time
Perverting the course of justice
Defrauding the insurance company....

To name but 3 charges....

And all could come about from a innocent comment from a neighbour, when asked if they had seen or heard anything. And say who would nick a bike that had not been used for a month after he hit a deer......

Never mind the fact that you would struggle to ever get insurance again......

All for the sake of a few hundred quid.....

This is one reason why when taking out insurance you have to factor in, can you afford to replace the bike.
If the answer is no, then its FC only.

I dont think anyone has pointed out that once you get out of prison for fraud, your insurance company would have cancelled your insurance for you. When they do that it becomes very difficult for you to get cover if other companies see that you have had your previous policy invalidated for fraud.

Right,
fairings on one side.. run it naked..take other side off!
indicators. ebay 9.99 for 4 cheap ugly ones..
back brake pedal..again ebay for a couple of quid!
exhaust snapped..what do you mean, bracket? if so.. weld it/really bodge it.

To me..that seems like a day/afternoons work, who gives a shit what it looks like? if it runs, it runs!
Then again i have no taste AND have ugly bikes!

Also..dont commit fraud just so you can get yourself a shitty claim on your history, an inevitably get arse raped by the bald fat man in prison.

Just fix it...failing that, i'll trade you my CLR125, i'll buy the new forks it needs..and i'll have your NSR.. simple!

For a start changing policy then claiming within 3 to 4 weeks(depending on insurers measures) of a new policy or policy change automatically flags as suspicious which is then looked into greater depth by a human being who works on the claims handling and fraud dept of the said insurance company. (I used to do this).

I'd give further reasons why it's easy to get caught but frankly every reason I could detail about this also gives you opportunity and information about preventing said measures.

It's not nice, it pushes up premium for everyone(yourself included) and tbh It gives us a bad name.

If you are going to do it, do it it's your life and you've probably already made your mind up, but don't come onto a public(bike) forum asking if you should and detailing about it, it just makes you look silly and imature.

Can't believe how touchy people are getting. I asked for information, which is what these public forums are for! I already said that I wasn't going to do it and just needed the reassurance that it was a stupid idea, contary to my friend who thought it was as simple as pushing it up the road and setting it on fire.

Thanks to everyone who gave helpful info, gave you all the karma you deserved! Thumbs Up

I'm going to give it a go at fixing, the exhaust has a crack at the bend coming out of the engine. If not I'd trade it in a heart beart for a City Fly as that's what I did my CBT on and was a lovely fun bike!

the bend coming out of the engine, the downpipe bit?
https://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_164997_langId_-1_categoryId_165625 and the gun gum bandages work wonders for a bit until you can save for a new downpipe
or you could weld it up?

city fly's are slow, heavy and very high seat position...i hate it Razz

Public forums are never the best place to ever discuss anything that is the wrong side of the law.

Yes, you did say.....
