Well your chums on a CBT are limited to a 125 in any case.

DRZ isn't a great motocross bike, but it's better on the road than a proper motocross bike would be.

Are you doing proper tracks or just field stuff?

Fieldy stuff like, green laning, nothing serious, just abit of fun with the lads.

Laning comes under the same rules as road riding, so your CBT chum can't ride anything bigger than a 125 and your other mate can't even do that.

Well, for starters you don't want 'Crossers'.

As Bendy said, for green laning you need a 100% road legal bike. This means tax, MOT, insurance and license where appropriate. If you want a field bike buy a field bike. If you want a green laner, buy a green laner.

A motocross bike doesn't fit either category. They are sharp and focussed and very very hard to make road legal. A 125 motocross bike will be above the 125 learner power limit.

It actually sounds like you and your mates want three different things. You want a green laner/road legal enduro bike, your mate with a CBT wants a DT125, and your mate who wants to learn wants a 100cc field bike or something.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Are you wanting to go offroading with the bikes or are you wanting to go green laning with the bikes?

Well considering, I am 'new' to all this could you please define them?

I want to go and have some fun down dirt tracks and potle through the woods and stuff, if that helps.

"dirt tracks" are green lanes which are essentially roads.. all UK road laws apply with road legal bike, tax, mot, licence, insurance etc.

Fields and woods are generally illegal to ride in unless you have permission from the owner.

Motorcross is on proper legal tracks which you'd need to trailer or van your bike to. a 125cc mx bike is bloody quick too so don't be put off by the low cc number... for a n00b a 250cc mx bike would probably be too much of a handful.

There's not much "messing about" on bikes to be had these days unless you're lucky enough to own or have legal access to some private land!
