I recently bought a sharp aquos bd-21 player and the thing is shit! It's good when it works but it's so slow and keeps saying incompatible disc despite having all updates, one minute it will play then it won't and when it does play it keeps crashing!
I'm going to take it back, not sure I want a replacement sharp so considering the next low end model is about £120 or so I'm wondering i should just go for a ps3?
What's the bluray like on the ps3?? As good as a low end player?
I'm usually an xbox person so wasn't really after another console so please convince me the ps3 is worth the extra £100 or so over a standalone player.....
Finally, any good deals about on the slim model? Iv got a quidco account if there's any deals on that too. ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

I saw a comparison a while back showing a PS3 against one of the earlier players.
They set I Am Legend running in both players and timed how long it took the menu to load.
PS3 won by a fair bit.
here's a fairly recent update.

As above.
When the PS3 first came out it was the cheapest Blue Ray player on the market by a far bit.
It's still one of the better ones out there, and completely future proof due to the firmware updates.
Definately worth it even if you don't play games. You can also get iPlayer on PS3 now, so even less of a need for TV license. ____________________ My Flickr |

Seems £269.99 for the 250gb slim version with an official sony bluray controller and wolverine and dark knight on bluray chucked in is the best offer I can find right now...
Or £275 for 250gb with GT prologue and killzone 2..
Really tempting!!
Do you have to put batteries in the controllers or do they charge from the PS3 somehow? Also is the ps3 a WMC extender ?
Is it really neccessary to go for the 250gb one??? If you can plug a NAS into it as someone mentioned earlier on then surely the hdd size isn't a major thing? The 125gb version can be got from £240
Can get a slim 125gb with NFS Shift for £249.99 ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

Just read a CNET review which has answered most of my questions..
IT does seem very impressive I must say, everything the XBOX does but neater, smaller and tidier + built in wifi, charging controllers, changeable hard drives and a BD-live compatible blu ray player..
Not sure if the game quality/experience will be better but makes no odds really, both are good.. not sure if I should cancel my 360 pre-order of Modern Warfare 2 and get it on PS3??
So, is NFS Shift any good?
The console + game for £249 extends to
NFS Shift
Little Big Planet
Resistance 2
Call of Juarez
Killzone 2
Keep seeing ads for that little big planet, whats it all about and any good?
Not been a fan of previous NFS titles... and haven't played or heard of any of the others. If it helps, I only ever really play COD and sometimes GRiD.. I like "pick up and play" games mostly. ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

OK So I got a 120gb Slim today with NFS Shift.
First impressions, very nice, sleek, small light and pretty much silent. Everything the xbox isn't I might note.
I can't seem to get it to work in 1080p... my TV is meant to be 1080p (Samsung) but I'm getting suspicious to whether it actually is or not
It's set to 1080i now, watching bluray.. looks amazing, loaded really quickly and goes through menus a lot quicker than my Sharp one.. no issues, no delays, no problems.
Also, now I have correct DTS output to my AV receiver, unlike that bloody Sharp standalone which didn't seem to want to work!
Overall, I'm well happy and I've not even played a game yet ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

Seem to be having issues with the whole network side of things.... can't get a decent connection via wifi or wired... not sure why as the Xbox worked fine!!! Have a feeling somethings up with my router as my PC keeps losing connection as well so gotta look into that some more before I can use PSN properly.... managed to make it update the console, but can't get it to do anything else now, it won't update NFS Shift so been playing offline mode only.
Might just be imagining it, but I think the graphics are better on the PS3 than the Xbox, seems to look a bit better but I might be imagining it! ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |
