What lid have you got?

Hello chaps,

I'm slowly coming to the realisation that my £30 Dixon offroad lid has served me well but is in need of replacement.

I'm looking to buy a new (decent-ish) lid - what have you lot got and would you recommend it? Pics would be nice - I've had a little look online but have struggled to find designs that I like.

So then, show me your lids.

i've got a black RaidII too (which is my trackday helmet). great helmets these shoei's Smile

the XR1100 is sex but a bit on the expensive side as its just been launched

I have a Fox V2. Quality is very good, as good as my Arai road helmet.

comfort is good too and it's a hell of a lot cheaper than a Arai off-road helmet. And they come in cool designs.

To be fair dude, the answers to this question won't actually help you much ... people have different shape heads ....

Lid safety is more about the 'fit' than the exact make and model. You could have the worlds most expensive and 'rated' helment, but if it doesn't fit your nogging it could do more harm than good!!

Presuming it passes basic safety standards (BS and ACU gold should do it), then the 'best fitting' lid is the one you want! Thumbs Up

Those Fox ones I pictured are £290, my Dixon one is £40. I doubt the Fox lids are £250 'better'.

Does anyone know of anywhere in the SE with a decent selection to try?

Mine needs to be replaced.. Took a nasty head first whack after an over-the-bars @ close to 40mph. My lid was undamaged other than a small crack on the peak.. Nearly knocked me out aswell.. I actually saw stars!! Still suffer migranes and it happened nearly 2 year ago. I would recommend a one ind helmet to anyone.. I doubt I wouldve been so lucky with a cheapy helmet.. anything less than £100 is gonna be crap. I cannot belive for a second that a £30-50 helmet is gonna be of high quality..

As I alluded to eariler, as long as it has passed the basic/big saftey tests (BS and ACU) then it can't be totally rubbish ... from that point on more is probably to be gained by getting one that fits your exact noggin best over the most expensive one ....

Funnily enough in that 'sharp' test thingy they did many of the top end Arai's didn't come out too well!!!!

Like Louise, have a 'condor' road lid and that was a total fail in that test!! Shocked

If its cheap then its gonna be made cheap.. they gotta cut corners somewhere to gain a profit.. even though they meet specific standards they prob just about met em.. at least with a £100+ lid that exceeds standards you know its half decent..[/quote]

Cheaper lids doesn't always mean they are crap.
After buying expensive Arai's and Shoei's in years gone by and then knocking them off my seat or scratching them when carrying them, i dont buy expensive lids anymore.
I have a Suomy Trek that cost me £50 from J&S. Its very comfortable & quiet and the chin vent works well.... and i dont believe it would crumple like an egg box in a spill.

I've got a Wulfsport Prima MX thats fully road legal EC 22.05 and ACU gold star approved. Looks really nice in black and has a built in visor which i need as i wear glasses =[
Love it though works well and looks the part and was £50 brand new! Ebay, reduced from 85 or something.
