I live in Cheshire and out of the 1000's of filling stations I use when on the bike, only one constantly gives me grief as a biker, therefore I shall name and shame this service station and advise anybody on two wheels to steer well clear....here's why !!!

1) I was once left at the pumps for nearly ten minutes waiting for them to start. After finally abandoning hope of ever getting petrol out of these idiots I went in to see what the problem was....I was told to remove my helmet so they could get a clear picture of me on the CCTV. I pointed out that I have an open face helmet with no visor and at the time no sunglasses and I asked the girl behind the counter if she had any problems seeing my face....no, she replied.....but rules is rules. I asked her if she would ask a muslim to do the same and she said yes !!! (so be warned Muslims, you're just as likely to steal petrol as I am). I asked her if I stayed there all day until a Muslim came in she would refuse them petrol if their face was obscured and she said she would as it was 'company policy'. I asked to see the company policy and was told No.

....Point 1 is, even though a little bit jobs-worth, understandable...onto point 2....

2) Two days ago I had the same problem at the same garage, no fuel, pumps dead. My helmet was off, my ignition was off, my gloves were off so I was leaving big grubby fingerprints all over the place. After another ten minute wait I was just about to go in and throw something heavy when a young girl came out and told me I would have to completely dismount my bike before petrol could be dispensed (I was still sitting on it), being told "It's the Law" - Is that the law because in 15 years of biking I have never been asked to fully get of before fueling !!!!!

....So for that reason I nominate G.E.Murgatroyd / Shell / Spar on Delamere Street, Winsford, Cheshire as the worst anti-biker garage I have ever used

And as soon as I learn how to post up photos I shall show you what it looks like

Rant Over !!!!!!!

Not this shit again.

Don't bother with the photos, it's a petrol station FFS, they all the same.

No one cares that some petrol station wouldn't sell you petrol before you took your lid off. But, it's fucking hilarious that you stood there waiting for 10 minutes before going to see what the problem was. Laughing

Is it actually illegal to fill up whilst sitting on the bike then? I do it all the time with my helmet on and haven't had any challenges (but then I always use the pay at pump thingie). Thinking

@ tatters...So you can only use the pay at pump stations...if they're operational that is. Round here i'd be stuffed without a sidestand.

Stop using that garage. Hardly rocket science.

A photo! Yay.

A garage gets 1 minute to turn the pump on or I go where my money is wanted. Thumbs Up

Most of the company policies are put into place by people who have no experience of bikes or indeed the everyday running of the petrol station itself.

In a previous life I worked in a couple of stations and it's more ignorance over bikers wants than just blindly adhering to safety measures that allows these policies to continue.

The best thing to do is just use another station if it really does bother you that much or write to the head office and explain your argument to them.

Thumbs Down for using the muslim card as well it's as bad as those that play the race card with "is it cos I is black".

I wouldn't say its a Muslim card its a valid point, that lady was lying as she wouldn't ask a muslim to remove the covering.
Hopefully PC world will change soon.

Not really, more like those people who when getting a parking ticket point over to another car and say what about him he hasn't got one dropping some other poor sod in the shit.

Nothing to do with being PC on my part I assure you, because I'm not, more to do with dealing with a situation on its own merits rather than bringing external examples.

For those who are genuinely pissed off by this kind of thing, I quickly set up a website to allow naming and shaming. It's only at the early stages so it's a bit rough and not on the final domain (hence the tiny url) but try it out:

https://tiny.cc/fzpHP

I hope this doesn't get marked as spam, it's simply my way of trying to solve a problem that clearly divides bcf as to thread worthiness.

I always fill up one handed whilst sat on the bike. I'm no
Schwarzenegger but can do it either-handed. No probs with spillage
or dropping it.

I'd say, around here 40-50% of bikers do likewise.

I think he meant one hand holding the bike upright, and the other pumping.

Ah, right. Thanks for the clarification, Big_Ham. That'd
certainly be a bit awkward. Thumbs Up

I've never seen anyone attempt to do that in 35 years of filling-up.
Have you? I'd pop over and give them a hand if I did.

On 3 separate occasions I've seen motorcycle instructors fill up sitting on their bikes with students in London.

Just leave the pump on the floor next time or lodged into the sand bucket. That'll teach them.

What on earth would that achieve?! This post made no sense. There's no reason to attempt to lower the reputation of bikers in order to try and make a point in a futile manner such as this.
