I actually mean after a shave?

i.e. not in an attempt to smell nice (less bad) but to actually put on the face directly after a shave to put the shaving fire out or closing pores (or whatever the hell aftershave was originally for)???

From a wiki:-

"Aftershave is a lotion, gel, balm, powder, or liquid used mainly by men after they have finished shaving. It may contain an antiseptic agent such as alcohol to prevent infection from cuts as well as to numb damaged skin, a perfume to enhance scent, and a moisturizer to soften the skin. An alcohol-based, fragrance-free astringent can be used as an aftershave. It is said that the alcohol (usually SD Alcohol 40-B) in the aftershave closes pores in the skin and prevents irritation ("razor burn").[citation needed]

Many fashion designer houses lend their names to brands of aftershave, and thus aftershave is sometimes mistakenly referred to as Eau de Cologne."

Seems I wasn't far off with my guess!! Shhh!

I use aftershave to stop my skin from looking like I've just caught face aids / keep a good skin complexion after shaving. Antiseptic is good.

Plus I just love that burning sensation. Nothing like it. Laughing

I hate being clean shaven, I usually just run some hairclippers over my face. I spray on man perfume if I'm going out on the pull.

The Wikipedia answer is the modern one, cologne (now aftershave) was invented because the soap used to coat the man's face never used to be perfumed, as soap is made from tallow (or goats fat usually, back in the day, mixed with ash) it used to smell pretty bad, so aftershave was invented to hide the smell of the soap. These days most shaving foams, gels or oils are scented, hence the lack of a requirement for aftershave, unless it is a balm to reduce irritation.

Cheers

I like the idea of an old school shave.

Cut-throat, warm towel, etc.

But let's face it, on a freezing cold morning at 6 am, it's hardly the most practical thing......

I have to confess, I don't think I've ever clean shaven. I've never really needed to, I've always had either stubble, or a little bit of a 'full face' going on.

So I use it to smell nice when out on the tiles! Very Happy

For some strange reason, I now have that balding bloke from the Honda adverts in my head, you know, the one who rides/drives a succession of Honda's before going over the waterfall and landing in a hot air balloon, all whilst singing. Cracking advert.

Anyway, for some reason I reckon Ariel smells of him Mr. Green

Cheers
