ok ok ok, I'll admit that I've been a nokia man all my life, but I got a nokia 5800 and only 2 phones use that os, that 1, and the new N97, which left me with very little apps to play with.


so got myself an iPhone 3g. Wiped it, updated it to OS3.0 and Jailbroke it.

learned how to install .ipa files and have access to shit loads of free stuff now.

What are good apps to play with?

currently installing the Navigon Sat Nav Thumbs Up 1.2gb Shocked

Also orb live, just set up orb on a pc and access your music and videos from anywhere. If you have a tv tuner you can even watch live tv.

The quality isnt that bad either if you get on wifi, maybe it's alright on 3g too.

Also if you want to fuck about with the looks winterboard and boss prefs are useful.

Any updates to good apps/games out there? I get a 3G tomorrow so will be putting loads of crap on it.

Btw N30 what made you choose Navigon over tomtom & where do you d/l all your goodies from? Smile

Facebook - self explanatory
Navigon - One of the best Sat navs I've had, needs postcode search though, tomtom uses too much battery
Wolfenstein RPG, good game, turn based but still FPS
Geodefence - awesome tower defence game
Gangstar - GTA for iphone
F.A.S.T - very good looking air to air combat game
Sandstorm - Call of duty copy
Dexter - Huge game, excellent graphics and gameplay
Duke Nukem - w00t
Snes4iphone - Snes emulator, runs at full speed with sound.
Robocalypse - command and conquereque game, good.
Hip hop All Stars - DJ hero for iphone.
Logmein - Control your PC from your iphone via wifi.
Dynolicious - Accelerometer controlled app for measuring G-Force
Pocket Dyno - similar app.
Red Laser - Scan a barcode in a shop, and it will go online and find it you elsewhere for cheaper
Photobucket - upload photo's straight to photobucket from phone.
BiteSMS - best app I have, allows quick replys to texts without closing the app your in, allows smileys.
iBluetooth, unlocks the bluetooth fully, allowing you to send anything to any phone.
Shazam - hold it up to music, and it will go online and tell you exactly what tune it is, fetch the album cover, and allow you to purchase the tune
MotionGPS - very good GPS tracker, tracks you everywhere you go, and shows you your route on google maps where you've been, shows average speed, and top speed and many more.

I get them from Installous mate, an app for your phone.
I take it you have Cydia, go to sources, and add this one
cydia.hackulo.us

let it restart, you'll then see more apps available, choose Installous ( or search for it)

Got my 3G this morning & been messing about with it all day. Great piece if kit! Got it jailbroken, only a few apps on it tho.

winterboard usually slows it down, so dont bother with themes. 3GS may be better at handling it though (if thats what you have)

search google for Appulous.us

also put installous on the phone (they do the same). you will need appsync 3.1 to install any apps from those sources.

Cydia is mainly for homebrew stuff like scripts/addons.

Google for Installous, it's the pirate version of the app store Thumbs Up

Is it necessary to pay for iBluetooth as I install it but it won't load, comes up some error message upon launching and says to either relaunch or reset phone, neither of which resolve the problem??

use the appulo website if you want to download a huge game, like over 50mb, and cba to download on the phone. then import into itunes and sync it over (appsync 3.1 must be installed on phone from cydia first)

if you havent already, download something called SBsettings from cydia. you swipe your finger across the top of the screen where battery bar and signal is, and a drop down menu comes down where you can turn off wifi, bluetooth, adjust brightness etc. loads of other toggles for download too. it also has a dock you can relocate programs to.
very useful instead of going to settings to turn off/on wifi! you can also hide programs (like stocks) on the springboard homescreen.

another nice little app is BossPaper. you can change your springboard homescreen background, with no memory useage affected.

and - Rename. you rename apps on the springboard Wink

Just got Midomi too, possibly the smartest app on the market? I've been trying to find the name of a song for ages but knew nothing about it apart from the melody so just hummed it into Midomi & it found it no problem!

yeah Shazam does the same, although just from actual playback of the song.

i found Midomi never got my humming. maybe im just a bad hummer (lol)

Jailbreaking allows the running of unsigned apps on the phone. It does not unlock the phone. A Jailbroken phone will still be locked to the original provider.

Because the phone can run unsigned apps it gives you access to a large number of non apple approved applications which can be easily installed using an alternative 'app store' - Cydia.

That's jailbreaking in a nutshell.
