Behold the almighty Honda Chaly.

https://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a376/ms51ves3/DSC01149.jpg

Just like the TZR I bought it off my estate. A while ago (we're talking about 6 months) the milkman tipped me off about a guy having a moped, so I gave him a piece of paper to pop through the letterbox with my contact details on. 3 days ago I received an email, and now, £50 lighter I own the little beast.

It came with a brand new battery and a C90 Haynes manual, an old V5, some M.O.Ts and the original owners manual.

Arrow At the moment it's stuck in gear so we took the chain off so I could push it home.
Arrow It's got 2251.4 miles on the clock, but something isn't working as it hasn't changed after the 1 mile push home.
Arrow The front brake binds slightly.
Arrow I've only got 2 indicators rather than all 4.
Arrow There is no key. Long story short it went to the crusher with a Nissan Micra. Damn scrappage scheme.

Generally, it just needs an overhaul. First things first, get the engine running.

It's legal. Got half of an old V5. You used to have to fill in 2 parts and send them both off separately. What's happened is they filled in one part but not the other, so hopefully, if I fill in the V5 half with my details, I'll get a new log book.

Plans are to get it M.O.Ted and then work from there.

I've just been to pay for the bike (he let me push it home and come back, he wouldn't even accept the £25 I took) and the guy said he'll go to a Honda dealer tomorrow and try and buy me a key. Top bloke.

Also, after a quick look over, and upon pulling the tank out it is apparent that the bike is completely solid. There's not a spec of rust underneath the tank, the tank is solid and the seat base is in exceptional condition. The forks are pitted but not where they travel. Even the original Bridgestones have no perishing.

If I can get it to run all I think I'll have to do for the M.O.T is overhaul the brakes.

I watched some of the Vietnam episode yesterday on YouTube Very Happy

Cleaned some of the carb tonight in my ultrasonic cleaner using ASDA's Smart Price cola.

Before:

After:

https://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a376/ms51ves3/DSC01151.jpg

The choke mechanism was a bit stiff and it didn't shut properly (took about a second to flip from fully open to fully closed) so I removed it. There was some dried fuel on the end of it and it was tacky like semi-dried glue

After:

As good as new now.

Forgot to upload a picture of the inside of the tank on my last post.

Not bad considering it's 36 years old.

Here is the Chaly but in chineese completion.

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CHALY-125CC-MONKEY-BIKE-PITBIKE-DAX-BIKE-NEW-MOTORHOME_W0QQitemZ350261236459QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Motorcycles?hash=item518d3252eb&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

The add says "Monkey bikes are road legal from 16 yrs and classified as mopeds (50cc)..." and actually one is 125 cc

And here is response from DVLA related to THIS vehicle:

"It is the responsibility of the rider to prove to the police/courts that the motorcycle they are riding is appropriate to the driving licence category held.

The motorcycle you mention falls outside the definition of a learner motorcycle.

However, if you wish to restrict your motorcycle you should contact the Department's Transport

The speedo problem has been traced to the speedo cable. This is supposed to be attached:

https://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a376/ms51ves3/DSC01160.jpg

The mudguard has taken a bit of a bashing at some point, I'm not sure if I should try and straighten it out or just leave it.

https://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a376/ms51ves3/DSC01161.jpg

https://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a376/ms51ves3/DSC01162.jpg

And the good side to compare it with:

https://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a376/ms51ves3/DSC01163.jpg

I'm going to clean the mudguards up and give them a coat of underseal on the inside.

The front brake problem turned out to be just a badly adjusted cable, but as I have the wheel and brake off now I figured I may as well clean it. The drum has some surface rust but otherwise, it all looks good.

Just a picture of the TZR looking upset because I've moved on:

Just a quick question, I noticed today that on the cam cover there are three domed nuts and then a normal nut. I thought somebody had messed about at some point but looking on the front of my C90 manual, that is the same. Any reason for this?

IIRC the domed nuts are because oil travels up the studs for top end lubrication.

Got a bargain there, the CF70 heads are valuable to the monkeybike lot 'cause they've got big valves.

what a silly amount of potential fun you have got there! Laughing
I reckon a tuned C90 lump would be alot of fun in that, but tbh it really looks made for a YB100 lump to drop right on it there! Would be another silly but so much fun machine then, just like Binge's TZR monkey bike!

Looking through Bikepics a lot of them are fitted with Suzuki A100 engines.

Maybe I should fit my TZR250 engine Thinking Laughing

Turbo.

Similar engine, a little different in frame compared to the Dax.

I'm in Manchester. The only worry I have is that if you bent it back the arm may break off.

The mudguard is the least of my worries at the moment.

Put the carb back together and the front wheel back on. The brake is lovely now.

One of my suspicions has been confirmed, I noticed when looking at the bike at the guys house but thought maybe it was just my eyes, but it wasn't, the forks are ever so slightly bent.

https://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a376/ms51ves3/DSC01169.jpg

Suggestions?

Arrow Bend them back in place?
Arrow Take the forks apart and bend them?
Arrow Bending them back won't work, find some new forks?

Option one is my preferred method but obviously could damage seals and bushes.
