Right well i've been offered a superdream in good condition, just needs the paintwork tidying.

I'm hoping to make a proper little cafe racer from it as the gs500 was a load of fun both building and riding.

I'm wondering if anyone has any general information on these bikes and what can (if anything) is often done to them?

First things first will be the engine, im not thinking of anything too severe except for ignition advancing, making the exhaust more free flowing and a pair of velocity stacks, however im not sure how well this little twin will respond so messed up jetting so any advice here is good.

Next things next i'll be wanting to drop the forks slightly to lower the front end and fit clip ons. Ontop of this i want to move the rider pegs up and back a bit however ive not even sat on one of these bikes before so im unsure what the current rider positioning will be like. In the future i'd like to go about a usd front end however im not sure i'd waste my time on such a small/common bike.

Next things next will be the stereotypical seat hump, im unsure how i plan to go about this but currently im considering carving a new seat from fairly firm foam and covering it and having 'Honda' stitched into the back in silver.

Then it'll be sand, polish and laquer the tank followed by black panels.

Anything else i may want to consider?
It's meant as a cheap shitter to get me around uni and the area, but a bike has to remain fun and thats why im doing this Wink

Firstly, they are slow and heavy. There is nothing much you can do you get away from this.

Mine had a rotten exhaust on it. After blowing a 2p sized hole out of the collector box I fitted a 2-1 exhaust system. It was a hell of a lot lighter but upset the fuelling a bit.

This brings me onto re-jetting. I never found anywhere that does jets/needles for this bike. So if you're planning on putting stacks, exhausts and other tweaks to squeeze any extra power out of this low tuned commuter engine, make sure you can actually adjust the fuelling first.

You can still make a fun bike out of it. But it may be better money spent elsewhere. They say you can't polish a turd.

Superdreams do like their airboxes. A lot of people replace them with K&Ns then regret it because they can't make them run right.

Flip the standard handlebars through 180 degrees for instant ace bars.

mate of mine chopped a 250 dream many years ago Laughing looked ok but was built using parts of a shopping trolley Shocked

went ok would top out at around 95mph and was smart off the line due to the amount of weight he had removed Very Happy

pretty bomb proof as well coming back from Wales managed to drop it and crack the sump emptying all the oil on the road rode it back to Coventry just stopping from time to time to pour a little oil in made it repaired it with no problems Shocked

I think you've hit the nail on the head. Every time I think of mine I do miss it. I've owned and ridden bikes that are hundreds of times better in performance, build and just grin factor. Although every now and again I have a cheeky search on ebay to see if any are going cheap.

The 400 engine was meant to be a lot better. Might be an idea to chop the 250 engine for a 400. Same weight but (I think) almost double the torque.

There was also a bucket type fairing available made by I think Rickmans.
