Maxxis supermax 120/65ZR17 and 150/70 R 17 Pilot Road

Managed to Womble a set of tyres whilst at Brands last weekend!! Thumbs Up

The front is a Maxxis Supermax 120/65 ... 65 is an odd profile ...

The rear is a 150/70 ... my bike is suppose to run a 160/60, but hey, that is close enough for me!! Thumbs Up

I have put the front on - its almost NEW (tread wise) Shocked

The rear has a mushroom repair in it, not bothered about that, but it was noted! ... It looks to have a fair few miles left in it and otherwise looks OK ... well apart for it being a sh1tchelin!! Very Happy

Why do people throw away perfectly usable tyres?!?! Thinking

Anyone used Supermax before?

i have a pair of maxxis tyres waiting to be fitted to my bike, before i bought them i did a bit of googling and discovered that there are a lot of them in use for road riding and most people seem to be very pleased with them, M+P were doing them recently for £95 per pair..120 60 17...and 160 60 17, its got to be worth a wee gamble at that price Wink

Nothing wrong with those maxxis tyres, I'm on my second set on the VFR.

That said, could be you got a dodgy one and that's why it's been slung out.

Yep I too think it was simply a faulty one .... just goes to show that not every womble is as good as it seems!! Embarassed

I'll check it over for faults (had a look initially to check it wasn't obviously damaged, but will have a closer inspection of 'trueness' now I have established it has issues when in motion.

I've got a set of Maxxis Supermax 120/70 and 180/55 ready to go on my Bandit shortly. Cost me £99 the pair from The Fast One which is pretty damn cheap.
They've had brilliant reviews from guys in forums that have fitted them to Bandits & other bikes so i'm quietly confident about them.

Finally got round to having a look at the Maxxis tyre, basically the tyres is 'buckled' (misshapen) and hence runs out of true, therefore resulting in the shaking at the bars!! Sad

It has obviously been manufactured incorrectly, but I can't see any obvious reason why it would suddenly 'fail' so I'll leave it on there until it annoys me enough to change it!! Smile

At least now we know why it was in the bin!! Wink

I had a Maxiss front supermoto road 'intermediate' tyre - it was terrible if not treated with kid-gloves.

Fitted the rear pilot road today - unlike the front, the rear seems to NOT be faulty and is behaving itself at the mo*!! Thumbs Up

*that said it is s***chelin, I am sure it will spit me off with no warning at some point!!! Rolling Eyes

Finally decided that I can't live with the wibbly wobbly Supermax on the front, so took it off and put an 020 I had on!! Thumbs Up

I've put the Supermax on eBay £30 BIN - 'Nearly new' as the description Cool

... hopefully some mug will buy it ..... Thinking

This is a joke BTW ... I have taken it off, but placed it firmly in the bin where it belongs!!

I've had similar issues with Michellin race tyres and them having to be hot. Talked to another racer who said he found exactly the same with the road tyres, so have avoided since.
Lots of people like 2CTs, but I'm still a bit suspicious.
I would like to see a 'scientific' examination of hot and cold weather grip.

In the end, everyone has opinions, which are often based on 'feel'; while feel can be overcome, mechanical grip can not really.
