I find mainly that my sleep paralysis is not when I'm asleep....

I was thinking that I haven't had one for a while but then I had one the other morning...

I sometimes have them when asleep proper, my first two were like that, but now they seem to happen more when I'm in a sleepy mood but not actually asleep. The other morning I woke up and was laying around in bed eyes only half open when it crept up on me and I had an episode.....

It was really wierd having one being able to see cos it was a bit blurry but I still had paralysis proper and couldn't move at all. I can normally feel them coming when I'm awake and can shake them off as the arrive if I want to before they happen. Most of the time tho I just let them happen cos I think its kinda cool Rolling Eyes I think cos I've been told its linked to LDing and OBE's.

I can get them aswell if I'm meditating/trance mode in bed before I go to sleep, theres a wierd feeling as it slowly creeps up from my toes and paralysizes me when it gets to my head.....

But if I'm conscious/awake when it happens is it sleep paralysis proper?? Or maybe cataplexy or some similar wierd paralysis job?

Only happens when I'm in a relaxed state to begin with tho, never happens normally.....

Wikipedia says;

Quote:
In addition, the paralysis state may be accompanied by terrifying hallucinations (hypnopompic or hypnagogic) and an acute sense of danger.[11] Sleep paralysis is particularly frightening to the individual because of the vividness of such hallucinations.[7] The hallucinatory element to sleep paralysis makes it even more likely that someone will interpret the experience as a dream, since completely fanciful, or dream-like, objects may appear in the room alongside one's normal vision. Some scientists have proposed this condition as an explanation for alien abductions and ghostly encounters.[12] A study by Susan Blackmore and Marcus Cox (the Blackmore-Cox study) of the University of the West of England supports the suggestion that reports of alien abductions are related to sleep paralysis rather than to temporal lobe lability.[13]

Shocked

I'm hoping you don't get these symptoms as well?

There was a program on this not long back (can't for the life in me remember what it was called and it was on some obscure channel).

There was this girl (fairly youngish, about 14 i think) that would family 'collapse' at random points throughout the day and be in a state or paralysis. She would suddenly snap out of it and then carry on with normal activities, although she couldn't go anywhere alone (or with someone that didn't know about her condition) as it could happen at anytime and around 7-8 times a day iirc.

This woman (can't remember how old, 40 odd or something) had what she described as terrifying nightmares but while she was awake (still in bed though). There would be monsters and shit 'sitting on her chest' and she could subconciously feel the weight on her chest but totally unable to move. From what she described, it did sound pretty scary and i wouldn't want it to happen to me, especially the fact she goes into a state of paralysis Shocked

Do a search using sleep paralysis and my username, I've detailed my experiences before and it's a bit long winded to keep typing it out.

Funnily enough, had an episode last night, which is the first in a long time. All I can remember is that in a dream I was talking to my brother and then he started getting nasty so I 'woke up' and sat up and assured myself I'd just had a dream before lying down again. Then it hit me, something was shaking me, but I didn't dare open my eyes as I knew what I would see would be upleasent, so I just kept trying to nudge my girlfriend and was groaning (as thats all I could manage) so that she would wake me up proper.

She's had to wake me up before because she has seen me writhing around making a lot of noise, said it scared the shit out of her. Even when I did wake up I was weary and kept asking her questions to test if she was real or whether she was going to change into something demonic as has happened in the past.

The first few times I thought I was being possesed or something. I had a wierd dream where I was being crushed, then woke up and a massive force just hit me and crushed me in real life.. Shocked

The first few times there were scary hallucinations like a flickering ghostly girls head screaming "wheres mary?!" floating in the middle of my bedroom. Now theres either no hallucinations or just mild "lightshow" hallucinations projected onto the ceiling..... Better than screaming ghostly encounters.....

I was talking to a guy who just told me to relax and not fight it and that seems to work. The only thing I don't like about it now is the noise. Its a high pitched rustling/screaming/whistling noise interspered with clicking that creeps me out. I get the alien vibe from it as though its some sort of alien language or something and thats what scares me..... (I'm saying its LIKE and alien language, not that it IS an alien language...)

The thing that used to get me is it used to hit me like and impact and it was really suprising. Now I can feel it coming and its more "Oh, its one of these again...."

All I ever got was the sound of someone sighing or coughing, as if there were right next to my ear. Other than that it was a mans voice talking, though I can't recall what it was saying.

I don't know about you, but most of the time I can tell before I even go to bed if it's going to happen, very hard to describe, but I have a sense of knowing to expect a rough night.

Last nights took me completely by suprise as it hadnt happened in ages......guess thats what happens when you let your guard down!

Sounds more like you were Rohypnoled and buttfucked to me - instead of inventing silly medical conditions, just try dealing with the reality that another man has spunked his salty seed up your butthole.

Thumbs Up

I too have had this and still quite frequently get it, I too have posted copious amounts on it, its easy to control when you know its happening which can only be really done if it happens a lot and you are ready for it, which isn't obviously something you want to be doing! Couple it with a few false awakenings and its a fun interjection in a good nights sleep!

I've actually been doing some research into lucid dreaming and astral projection of late ( after a few years break) and they use intentional sleep paralysis as a technique to promote both.

I've never tried it before a few weeks ago and I will admit when it first occurs it is quite disconcerting to say the least, yet I was surprised how easily you can do it.

The rushing wind noise is a transition between being awake and asleep or being conscious and having your subconscious take over.

It's described like 2 radio stations. When you're awake you're tuned into station A (conscious mind) and when you're asleep you're tuned into station B (sub conscious). This rushing sound is like the noise you get when you're in between stations as you're not quite tuned into A or B but somewhere in between.

Normally most people won't hear this or experience sleep paralysis whilst lucid because the body runs some tests to see if your asleep before puting itself into paralysis.
These are the small twitches you make when you're falling to sleep or the desire to roll over. If you respond by moving your body knows you're still awake and does nothing.
If you do not respond it knows/thinks your asleep and moves into paralysis so you don't move or lash out whilst dreaming (it's a protective response) .
This is when the noises will occur as you transition into your subconscious mind but not until your conscious mind is asleep but you hear nothing as you're asleep.

False awakening and sleep paralysis will go hand in hand as your still effectively asleep and your subconscious is still in control.
Just relax and move your eyes around a bit and work from your head down. Close your mouth and breath through your nose and vary your breathing. Your body will recognize these signals as you waking up and should come back to normal on its own.

Easier said than done when somethings sitting on your back trying to strangle you, and 'things' are crawling out from under the bed.

i had a pretty similar experience at a few points when i was around 10-11, i would be concious but see dark people in cloaks, evil looking faces flying arond my room and couldnt move, very scary indeed ive never felt fear like in before or since youd wake up straight away but the shock of it almost makes u cry

yeah I know. I had an experience a while back with false awakenings and had like a massive black shadow/rpesence over the top of me which would not permit me to sit up.
It certainly was not welcoming to say the least.
Scared the right shit out of me that did Shocked
