Okay so been contemplating for a while whether to put renthal handlebars on my hornet.

So I have a few questions,

I am most interested in the Ultra-low ones, but i'm worried the handlebars will be either hitting the tank or very close to the tank once they are on.

Might the wires snag or be too short for the bars?

Do they make the bike feel better?

Is filtering through traffic any harder? I'm trying to picture how much wider they actually are?

What is the best way to mark the bars for the holes?

Where is the cheapest place to buy them?

Many thanks,

Tim.

Just pull the wires through a bit more, plenty of people have them.

yeah i find the bike is very easy to control at low speeds, and you can really stretch out on it whilst cruising. i tried a friends hornet with standard bars and felt cramped. my hornet is comfortable with them Smile

Filtering slightly harder but not impossible, i even have a bar end mirror on mine and i do 40 miles a day on north circular and 20 miles on weekends into central london - filtering pretty much all the way.

Dont know, i didnt do the holes, bars were on when i got the bike

check out https://www.jesterstrickbits.co.uk/acatalog/Honda-CB600-Hornet-1997-2002.html they are £40 there and he is a good guy to buy from, will offer advice if needed

Thumbs Up

I've got Renthal Streetfighter 768 bars on my Bandit. Any other sized Renthal bars would have been too wide for my cables, so check before you order.
I'm a big fan of Renthals though. They give you a more agressive riding stance but they are more comfortable with your grips further apart than standard bars.... and they look damn cool as well.
You will need new bar ends as well as the inside diameter of Renthals is smaller than steel bars.

Just to add..... i never bothered drilling pilot holes. I just filed down the plastic lugs on the inside of the switchgear but left a couple of mil left. I then bound some insulation tape where the switchgear goes around the bars and the couple of mil left of the lugs will grip into it. They definitely wont move if you do it this way.
I did this because i could then experiment with positioning the switchgear after riding it.

£40 for Renthals?

Edit

Oh you meant the street fighter bars with bar ends & grips! That not a bad price. (Sorry)

Renthal mediums on my XJR loads better than stock. Must be a naked bike thing. I also filled the lugs of. The renthal site is say not to drill the bars. Smile

I had ultralows on my hornet.
in response to your questions...
Wont hit the tank if you have them set properly
Again if set well no issue with cables or wires
Yes feel better, esp on track.
No difference when filtering.
Buy second hand ones that are pre drilled Very Happy
Jester is great had a few bits off him over he years!

the bars are easy to drill. all i did was put my throttle tube onto the switchgear as it would be on the bike. put a tape measure through the tube upto the stud. the just read the measurement and then makr it onto the bar and drill away ha Very Happy

in response to "hellobaby" the brace on renthal bars should just have 2 bolts holding it tightly in place. just see if they need tightening.

ive also got the streetfighter renthals on my 900 hornet, a lot more comfortable for cruising and you get better feel and response when your giving it a bit of stick.

i drilled them, all i did is put a dab of tipex on the lug got them where i wanted them and touched it onto the bar. then drilled where the mark was, all the cabels where fine just pulled them out abit more.

Had Renthals on my old Hornet and they felt great. I had real control of the bike and no problems at all filtering. Looked like the cables were just long enough for them but not much slack. Had the brace on mine too. I can also recommend Jesters trick bits as he supplied alot of the aftermarket parts on the bike including the Blue Flame can
