Thanks Dave, that's the second time in a fortnight you've given me a book heads up, I''ll be getting my copy tomorrow
Hopefully it will be done as close to adams style as possible. ____________________ And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

He never wanted to make a film from what I gather but he did want to bring another book out. At the very least it has been done with his widows blessing and by a writer who seems to be a fan.
I don't think it will be as good as adams books but if it's only half as good then it will still be pretty special. ____________________ And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

I spose now that Adams is out of the picture, the publishers are going to milk it a little bit more. |
eh?
| wikipedia wrote: | In 1980, Adams also began attempts to turn the first Hitchhiker's novel into a movie, making several trips to Los Angeles, California, and working with a number of Hollywood studios and potential producers. The next year, 1981, the radio series became the basis for a BBC television mini-series "The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy" broadcast in six parts. When he died in 2001 in California, he had been trying again to get the movie project started with Disney, which had bought the rights in 1998. The screenplay finally got a posthumous re-write by Karey Kirkpatrick, was green-lit in September 2003, and the resulting movie was released in 2005. |
i remember he said a cracking line that stuck with me "trying to make a film in hollywood is like trying to grill a salmon by having a succession of people walk in to a room and breath heavily at it"

well finally finished it...
and it was a bit like the drink you get from a Nutri-Matic Drink Synthesizer when you ask for a cup of tea, its close but it just isn't tea.
SPOILERS:
these are just a few thoughts i had whilst reading;
vogons don't need half a page to describe them.
zaphod isn't a really a guy ritchy-esque wheeler dealer, else when he was on frogstar B he'd have taken the guy's offer.
where's arthurs fear of dying? he's past stavros muller beta so he now knows he can die again.
when did the guide give suggestions as to background reading? ( it may have done but it seem to be more repetitive this time).
Pomwangler?
seem an edge too reliant on the guide as a narrative tool.
anyway those are just my musings ____________________ "intelligent inattention is preferable to unintelligent tinkering"

Just started it here and so far it seems to capture the general adamsness quite well. ____________________ And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
