pwned Laughing

Still, he'll get to experience free falling from 10,000ft.

Pretty cool what they made though, just a shame they didn't attach it to the ground properly before putting the kid in it. Laughing

US runaway balloon lands in field

https://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/46558000/jpg/_46558238_ground_ap226.jpg
TV News crews in the US tracked the balloon as it landed - but the boy did not appear to be inside

A helium balloon which was floating over the US state of Colorado with a six-year-old boy reportedly inside has landed, in a drama broadcast on TV.

US media reports say the boy was not found on board. Police are now said to be searching for him on the ground.

The mushroom-shaped silver balloon, apparently made by the boy's father, reportedly reached heights of 7,000ft.

The balloon was floating about 40 miles north of Denver before it came down, surrounded by rescue vehicles.

Hiding in a box in his attic. Rolling Eyes

https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8309818.stm

Why would the parents assume that the kid had hidden in some box attached to the balloon? Confused

Scary stuff loosing a kid but you think they would have checked inside the house first instead of assuming he was in a balloon floating away. Glad he was found anyway.

sounds bad but maybe they done it for attention to promote his tornado chasing balloon. Thinking just a thought.

Because his dad is as mad as a box of frogs?

https://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-65430 - yep, that's him.

(I did wonder if my choice of words might be taken as insensitive, but as I don't really GAF, the moment soon passed.)

Just more morons, probably distant relatives to Karen Matthews, they've obviously got some money and should be made to pay back the entire cost of the "rescue".

That ballon doesnt look big enough to carry anything as large as a child.

It would need to displace enough air, such that the difference in mass between that air displaced, and the helium inside, was equal to the mass of the child.

Hot air balloons that carry people, are very big for that reason.

Apparently it take 16 cu ft of Helium to lift 1lb - an average 6 year old weighs, what 50lb? So you'd need a 800 cu ft balloon.

A sphere with a radius of 6' would have a volume of 904 cubic feet - enough to lift a kid.

I think that looks big enough.

I watched 'Myth busters' on discovery a while ago, They had to fill a shit load of blow up thingys with helium just to make a man 'hover'
So I guessed the kid wasn't in the balloon just by the size of it and the speed it took off.

The guy was apparently on wife swap too, Anyone got a link to the episode?

Now the parents have been pwned. Very Happy

A US sheriff has said the case of six-year-old Falcon Heene who was believed to be adrift in a hot air balloon, prompting a major alert, was a hoax.

Sheriff Jim Alderden said the parents of the boy were actors and had put on a "good show for us, and we bought it".

Falcon's disappearance became a media drama, but he was later found at home.

The Colorado sheriff said there had been no arrests yet but charges may include conspiracy and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Some of the most serious charges each carry a maximum sentence of six years in prison and a $500,000 (£305,00) fine.
