It was a chilled ride to work this morning, until I hit the Limehouse tunnel towards Tower Hill. A rider from no where with a case of anger management seemed to be pissing everyone off, including me.
Just before we hit the conjested traffic, to which all riders would have to filter in single file, said rider revved up and forced his way in infront of me. I wobbled a bit but managed to break in time without hitting the back of him. Following this....I watched angry rider continued his journey of aggression.

Through the Limehouse tunnel we go, a long file of filterers infront and behind me. Angry rider in front of me had NO where to go except follow the rider in front of him. Angry rider was continuously revving his bike and tailgating the rider in front of him, which was absolutely stupid since that rider was following a long line of filterers anyway. Angry rider continued his revving, waving his arms like a loon (obviously losing his temper still at the slow filter), beeping at cars that were stationery whilst giving them the finger and gave a few kicks to a few car doors too!

What was the need of doing so? He wouldn't have got anywhere any faster as it was heavy conjestion and the cars were at a standstill. S/He might be having a bad day.....but that type of riding is just dangerous to other road users!

I find when i am passive/defensive in london you just get swallowed up. So i would rather piss a few people off and have them not try anything.

I dont know about fuming when theres clearly no where to go...

I've seen plenty of angry road users over the years, usually there is no point to thier anger, there is traffic, there is no way around it, why get angry. if you should have been somewhere you should have left earlier. there is very little in this world that a few minutes being late once in a while will affect you that much, if you are constantly late due to traffic, it isn't the traffic's fault it is yours for not taking it into account. If you haven't got self control perhaps the road isn't for you.

Saw a guy trying to force his way along Lower Thames St once, he was a large guy, quite young. As he was trying to filter between lines and came to a pinch point he would stand up off the seat and scream at the drivers for not moving over. Right funny.

London is full of crap filterers. I am one of those impatient ones that gets thoroughly fucked off if you're slow. I get more fucked off at (generally it's) scooter riders who insist on jumping past you at a red light, even if you're at the front. I'll kill one of those guys eventually.

If another rider in front of me is filtering a lot slower than me and won't pull over when there is a chance then I know that they're just out for themselves, can't perform mirror observations and can't spare a minute for someone with a wider motorcycle to get through the same gap.

These are people who obviously rides only when it's too hot to wear anything other than a mankini and is worse at judging gaps than a 17 year old female teenager trying to parallel park.

If I'm aware of a faster paced rider filtering up behind me (including motorways) I'll usually budge in somewhere in the fast lane and beckon them to pass with my left hand, providing I dont lose too much speed.

I was going to say yes, I am an aggressive rider - but after the OP's story I'm definitely not at that level!!

Instead I reckon I just ride progressively, get from A to B as quick as possible with the minimum of fuss. If a car is going slower I'll get past it as soon as is safe to do so. If I come across other bikers filtering slower than me I'll wait behind them making sure they are aware I'm there. I rarely get anyone catching me up when filtering, I put that down to my nibble, lightweight and narrow SLR!

Im not a really quick filterer so if I see a faster rider behind me will pull over enough to let him by and give him a wave to come through, done this once then spotted a car edging out further up so waved the rider behind to slow down, sure enough car pulled out but we both stopped safely. Rider gave me a thumbs up which was nice, coming from a guy / girl on a big bike to a learner on a 125.
