Tail tidy + muddy roads = points?

Er, I've got a tail tidy on my gixer so no big mudguard on the rear.

Unfortunately due to a new link road to the motorway and a motorway extension and expansion, we have massive road works here, which has left most of the roads thick with mud, from leaving home on a clean bike to arriving at work on a manky bike with almost nothing of the number plate visible, what would a copper say?

Is it a fine? Endorsable?

I am cleaning it before each journey but without fail its caked in grime by time I get home.

I could go another way but it would add about 25 minutes on.

Carry a rag in your pocket....if you get pulled first thing you do is get off...pull the rag out and wipe the plate before he/she gets going with the 'chat' .

If that was the reason he pulled you immediatly he/she will see you are aware of it and doing something about it. All you need to say is 'Right pain this is ...wish they would sort the mess on the roads out' (Which i am sure by law they should not let get that bad anyway) and I am sure he/she will be understanding....

Thats how I would approach it anyway ....no point getting snotty or ignorant.

as said carry a cloth and clean it if asked.

£60 fine at most imo as it's failure to display a number plate.

in winter loads of cars suffer from this

My van plate was caked in crap last year when we were pulled for a "safety check", (that included customs and excise dipping the tank) Confused

and VOSA checking the van over. copper was ok and asked if i knew my plate was filthy. told him I didn't, (never admit it, no matter what) but we had already done 650 miles that day, and told him I checked it all at the last fuel stop. then I just cleaned it right there and he was ok about it.
