Saw this video over and over on Sky news, just sent a cold shiver right through me watching the mother react to thinking she'd lost her child.

I don't think she'll forget to put the brakes on or use the wrist strap in future, do you! Shocked

It's weird, the second she takes her hands off the pram it starts rolling, the reaction time is very very long, you can't really see properly where she is looking, but the hands in the back pockets bit makes me think she is looking down at her feet, even so I baffled by how long it took her to realise it was rolling towards the track.

Extremely lucky, and indeed luck is the only thing that saved the day.

Note to the woman in the vid:

Now i don't know about in Oz, but i know that many pushchairs in this country have a clever invention that you may not be aware of which is designed to prevent exactly this sort of incident from occurring - it's called a 'brake'.

What happens is, when you use this 'brake', it miraculously stops the buggy from rolling off into the path of an oncoming train.
I'm not 100% certain of the crazy science behind it, but i believe it prevents the wheels from turning (or some such new fangled trickery).

So, next time you're at the train station (or anywhere else that has either a) a slight incline, and/or b) big fucking great heavy lumps of metal moving around), try using this 'brake' - that way your child might make it to adulthood, and you can spend more time scratching your arse or doing whatever else it was that was more important than preventing your offspring from rolling off into the path of an oncoming train, you thick fucking antipodean cockmuncher.

I think she is looking down the track towards the train. You wouldn't hear the pram rolling over the noise of a train.

It's ok, that's a fairly normal response similar to those of people in positions of authority. I'm sure when they designed it they had a brainstorming session about the incline of the platform and runaway prams factored into it. Should we redesign the saucepan so that it's impossible to boil your face in it?

I suppose if that incline was the other way and the drains got blocked then it would get flooded and a baby would drown in it, idiot designers Rolling Eyes


Looks to me like she was messing with her trouses, tucking herself in or whatever so looking at her arse effectively, still careless or not you can imagine how she felt.

I dread to think how the driver feels, I felt sick just watching it on TV in the canteen at work today.

Makes you wonder why the incline goes that way though? It means that any dropped can of coke/whatever else will always end up on the tracks or in the path of a train.

Because of the drainage under the tracks I imagine. Chances of a Coke can landing on a rail must be pretty slim. Doesn't seem a good idea now though.

I don't see much point in pointing the finger at the Mum. You can't expect someone never to take a hand of a pram, brake on or not.

I know a a couple of train drivers. I've asked this exact question to all of them. And they all say that suicide jumpers dont bother them in the slightest.

They even said its better when they hit the window because you get to have a look at them. Laughing


Obviously in this baby's case, It's different because its an innocent baby. Not some sicko who wants to kill them self.

But one of the drivers I know has had countless people go under the front of his trains. And it's never bothered him.
