Ok this might be a long post but its bothering me now..

Basically a year or so ago I was jobhunting and came across a IT job in london, I applied and to my amazement got a interview...

Naturally i shot up there early bird and all that jazz but it turnt out not to be an interview after all, but a 'free' computer course...

I was sceptical it has to be said, but the guy was obviously a salesman (not many people get this opportunity so congratulations)... I signed a contract which said i had to accept the first job with a minimum earning of something like 17k a year... I had never earnt that much money in my life so I was gullible in that respect.. Embarassed

The deal was that i was supposed to go to London 1-2 days a week for 'classroom' training, i couldn't do that as i was at college all week and then working... so they offered me the course online...

The course was crap.. taught me fuck all, it has to be said! literally questions like 'What is RAM?' asked by a american woman... argh!

Middle Finger

Anyway, i decided to revise the same way i did for my exams, I emailed the company for an exam voucher, which i got and booked my first exam... i failed as i didnt revise for it... so i got mock tests and learnt the questions/answers.... took it again and passed..

That was my XP exam, next was my Vista, which i did in the same way... then my last 2 exams were Microsoft Server 2003, which i had never used or even heard of really before this time...

Needless to say, i started knuckling down to learn the exam questions and correct answers...Wink

Then my life had an unexpected turn, my fiance of 3 years became pregnant, and this obviously distracted me from my studying until a few months before the course 'expired'.

I got back to work, and asked for my last 2 vouchers, after a week of no reply i emailed again, finally a REPLY!! But no codes were given, this was asking me various questions and feedback about the course, i answered it and asked for vouchers... i was told to email the exam team and did so but still no vouchers!

I must point out, without these 'vouchers' you cannot book exams and thus i could not complete the course.

I tried ringing, couldn't get through, it kept ringing out.

I emailed the guy who 'interviewed' me, and then to the main department and finally got an answer telling me the guy doesen't work there anymore, but STILL no vouchers...

Needless to say with less than a month to go and no vouchers and more than 3 emails sent, i sent them one final email Rolling Eyes

I told them due to not giving me the exam vouchers, i believe they have broke their agreement as per the contract.. and so i am anulling it from my side.

Needless to say, i didnt get a response.. and now i have 'Barclays Partner Finance' writing to me, harassing me on my old mobile number, and generally chasing me anyway they can.

They firstly sent letters to my old addresses (my dads and my mums) but all were sent back 'not known at this address'..

Now i think the accounts with the debt collectors...

I must point out, i never realised it was a 'finance' agreement as i was told it was a FREE course and thus it should of been completed (and i believe it would of been completed if they gave me the tools to do so) in time.

Evil or Very Mad

I dont know where i stand with this, i have NEVER taken a loan, mortgage, finance, or any sort of money borrowing in my life, yet i have a negative credit score (one from a T-mobile contract deal i went to get, but on the 10th day of 'not taking it' they negged my credit score, i went to buy the deal on the 11th day!)

Im not bothered about my credit rating, as i dont do borrowing anyway.. i dont work, im now a Full Time Dad... i look after my daughter 24/7 and claim Housing Benefit for my 1 bedroom flat... bills are paid by my fiance who works part time at a care home...

Where do i stand with regards to this?? Arrow

Confused, were you paying them money? Were they delaying payment until you were in work ?

Anyway, name and shame them, I am sure the FSA will know about them Wink

The companys called Fraser Mckenzie

I wasn't paying them anything, but from what i can gather, the course is financed by Barclays, and FM make a return from when they refer me to one of their 'companies' to work.... sort of a commission based deal i think...

Again, i didnt know that side of it, i was just the gullible teen who was doing a 'free' course... btw i dont or never did get a copy of the contract or finance agreement, although barclays have offered to send me a copy of the Finance agreement with my signature on it... Middle Finger

Well.. seems theres more info abundant now then there was at the time... its a well thought out scam obviously...

Thing is, it was a job advert i was applying for, 'congratulations not many people get invited for this course' my arse!!!

The current plan is just to hold out until they try to summon me to court, then attend, declare that i cannot pay it, i dont own anything of value or have any savings, and get the court to declare me bankrupt.... as if i declare it myself i have to pay Question

Even if you signed a contract with them, that doesn't nessecarily mean you signed a finance agreement with barclays.

Hein Gericke use that Barclays Partner Finance thingy, when i got some stuff on credit at HG the stuff i signed had barclays written all over it.

Talk to Barclays about it........

Explain what has happened and all that you have done to resolve it.

Dig out all the paperwork you have, you should still have the contract and read through it. Might need to see a solicitor about it. Or at least try Citizens Advice.

Don't bury your head in the sand and hope it goes to court. If they do make you bankrupt, while it can be wiped out in a couple of years it will effect you afterwards. And there may come a time when you need a credit rating.

Bankruptcy can affect your future employment hopes. As many types of employment will not take on anyone with a bad history. While it is not a issue now, that child will grow up and your other half may expect you to start earning some money when its at school.

Just had a look online about someone who was also 'offered a job' with them- their email states:

"...cover training costs on the basis you commit to one of our employment schemes once you are fully qualified."

But as you said they did not give you the vouchers so you could not complete the training and so you are not fully qualified.

They havent done their end of the deal.

However it does seem that if you dont complete the training they may still take you on.

From reading around, they have 90 days to find you a job, if they dont then you walk away without paying a penny apparently. Also, if your job they give you isnt up to a certain income, they expect you to pay a percentage of the training as the loan they have taken out is in your name Confused

People seem to go to CAB for advice about this, as based on searches, a lot of people have been caught out with this scam.

Hope you get is sorted Smile
