Custom Paint job, DIY or how much?

I was thinking about getting a custom paint job for my xj400 naked (this will depend on how much it will cost).

So, what I was thinking of was over all blue with two white stripes off centre, i've seen it on bikes before.

What sort of price am I looking at for this?
Also, how easy would it be to do this myself?

theres quite a few posts in the workshop section on spraying it your self.

the general theme of them is the better the preperation the better the final result will be.

as a guide to having some one do it for you it cost me £140 to have a nose cone and a side panel sprayed one colour and i had to take them off the bike, but they prepped them.

it think the cost varies slightly depending on the type of paint they use, you can also prep them your self to save some money but then you would have no come backs if it turned out rubbish.

You could always DIY by doing a really good blue coat then using white vinyl for the stripes - no masking then and therefore no shit looking edges.

depends how good you want it to look... good decent paintjobs will cost from 500 - 1000 depending how many fairings you got.
they will be preped properley and will have a good finish.
If you spend less it wont have a quality finish, but it depeds if you want to have a quality paint job, just like an exhaust, you can spend £50 on an aftermarket exhaust or £1000. Depends on the value of your bike really.
Prepping fairings is not easy, you dont just sand it down primer it up then spray away, theres a lot more to it.
