I spend a lot of time driving and I recently got zapped by a copper, not 100% sure if I've actually been ticketed, think I MIGHT have got lucky as I've not received anything yet, but think there's still time Sad

Anyways so I've decided to invest in a camera detector thing. My old sat nav did a fair enough job of it but it recently blew up and I'd kinda like just a standalone unit thats always on when the vans on to "prevent" getting zapped again.

Seems the road angel can be got second hand for about £60-80 for the "plus" model which has built in laser detector.

Anyone got one and care to comment?

How does the laser detector work then? it picks up when a cop aims a laser gun at you, but surely by then it's too late?

Just keep your eyes open, if you're local then you should know where they sit, and even if you're not then all camera vans are in areas where there is a speed camera sign beforehand, if you're going round a corner then watch your speed until you can see there's not a van ahead, really no need for a detector and infact it'll probably mean you're more likely to get caught because you're relying on it.

Mate of mine had a thing from the USA that detected radar. You will be surprised at how many things will set it off, he used it once or twice then it was never spoken of again.

Laser detector is a waste of time IMO. By the time it has detected the laser, you've been caught.
Road Angel itself is ok for fixed cameras, but as you don't know where the mobile ones are then what's the point?

Waste of time IMHO.
Personally, i never speed in 30, 40 or 50mph limits, but view NSL as my ticket to make good progress.
I feel i've kind of developed a 'spider sense' of where speedtraps will be, and will frequently have eased off the gas prior to even seeing the trap.
I have 0 points on my licence, and covered around 40K miles in the last year or so(both car and bike).

In the words of Ash Bailey - Speed trap coppers, suck my fat cock.

Thumbs Up
