 |
|
getting my hands on a Polo at some point, 1989, which I think makes it a MkII.
I want to do a bit of modification on it, but nothing silly, want the outcome to be a little like this:
https://www.digimods.co.uk/images/Virtualcarimages/cars/vwgolf3.jpg
I.E. matt paint, lowered by a fair bit, and some cool rims, maybe with stretched tyres. No trinkets, and no interior modding due to cashflow.
Thing is I haven't done anything with cars before, so can anyone reccomend anywhere to get rims for a MkII Polo, or which kind of attachment they have (4stud, 5stud etc., I don't really know what I'm talking about.
Also could someone tell me how difficult, for someone mechanically good with bikes, it is to lower one, and do a self spray job?

You will have to buy the special 'polo to golf transformation kit' to make it look like the picture |

What he said. You've pictured a Mk3 Golf there. I know you would expect BCF to say 'don't bother', but you will devalue a Mk2 Polo by modding it. They are a solid car, and a good choice as a first car, but by modding it you will put off future buyers. This is an '89 Polo:

PS. One of the most common problems is corroded fuel tanks, so check that before buying. ____________________ Current: ZZR1400

Looking at that, it's a bit of a bad example, I was thinking something more like this:

I know that's a MkI.
Imagine the rims from the Golf in black on the polo. That kind of thing. ____________________ Don't practice it until you get it right, practice it until you don't get it wrong.

I know that's a Mk3 Golf, but I was posting to show the modifications not the car.
And it's costing me £150. I'm not so bothered about devaluation. ____________________ Don't practice it until you get it right, practice it until you don't get it wrong.

What's helped by painting a white stripe around the edge of the wheels on the Polo?
It looks cool, that's about it. I don't think I'll do that anyway though, as it seriously decreases the tyre life. ____________________ Don't practice it until you get it right, practice it until you don't get it wrong.

Fair enough, not much of an outlay, but any mods you do to it will be money down the drain. Unless you plan to keep the car for quite a while I really wouldn't bother. Without spending serious dough you aren't going to make the car any better (worse if anything), hence you will lose any money that you throw at it. A good service is about as far as I would go. ____________________ Current: ZZR1400

Is it the 'baby hearse' model of polo, or is it the coupe? I had a 1.0 coupe on a H plate many years ago, it was fun ragging it around, but as my bicycle had thicker tyres it was terrible for the understeer.
Frankly, spending any (unnecessary) money on a £150 quid shitbox is nothing but Barrynomics. Cars like that should be cheap, basic no-frills transport, run them till they won't pass an MOT, then scrap it for another shitbox and repeat.
Anyways, back to Marjay vs Pug205er and the age old FWD vs RWD debate. Here's my 2p:
Regardless how much is spent on 'performance' parts for a FWD hatchback, it's still going to be an understeery scrabble-wagon - as that is the nature of FWD. I'd rather have a bog-stock RWD car, than a tuned FWD car, because the RWD car will always be more fun to drive.
(ok, there are some exceptions to this rule, but i'm not going to talk about them as it renders my blanket statement useless) ____________________ Space Monkey #7
