yeah £58m is a bit crazy. If the Govt cant fork out a fraction of that for the postage strikes... I doubt that will ever happen... Maybe in 10 years time when the Conservatives are on the way out lol.

i'm sure they make around 24m a year from speeding tickets and stuff anyway so they would need to have them in place for like 2 years to make there money back on them

No they don't, a post is thinner and generally has something on it.

Plus it's the Daily Mirror so I automatically don't believe what they're saying.

Those forward facing 'post' speed cameras have been in France years. I got flashed by one back in 2004.

Hardly what you would call hidden.

A great big grey pole sat in the middle of the road.... What do you think would be in it.....

The only way to make speed camera's a effective deterent is for them to be hidden.
That way you have no idea of when or where they maybe and it should make people think a lot more about speeding....

Unlike now with all the warning signs and great big yellow boxes.... Which just encourage drivers to speed between them and then stand on the brakes when they get to the next one. In fact anyone who gets caught by one of the yellow boxes deserves to be fined and get points for driving without due care and attention...

I think its time that unless a camera is working they should be forced to take them down and remove all the signs.

Just think back to the good ol'e days when it was PC Plod in his car that caught you. While they did have selected places, you were never sure the rest of the time.

Next week the Daily Mirror are doing a feature about some new tunnel that apparently links England and France!!

These are hidden speed cameras, but unsurprisingly they don't seem to have happened.

If they're secret then what's stopping you from continually planting obstructions or obscuring them.

Alternatively we will procure a system to mark a few hundred yards before the hidden camera to alert others to their presence. Would require a lot of hush-hush word spreading though.

I may be totally wrong but isnt it law that they have to be visible and have warning signs. Hence why they are painted bright yellow.
I know they can argue you shouldn't speed but to me speed cameras are just one more method for taking money from motorists

As already pointed out these 'hidden cameras' aren't that hidden, also I had heard about something that stated britain is now so full of speed cameras that local authorities would have to get a court order and state reasons for installing new ones,

furthermore as unpopular as the next statement maybe I am not 100% against the cameras as long as they are placed in an area where common sense would say that is a good place to have them to help reduce the risk of injury, death, eg not on a country road in the middle of nowhere as is sometimes the case,

In the area where I live in a 2mile stretch of road there are7 speed cameras which is going ott,

also last but not least why not get rid of the speed limits on the motorway like the german autobahns after years of having this 70mph limit why not have a no mph limit on motorways, alot of studies have shown that the german motorways are alot safer because instead of living in 'a nanny state' the germans have something our government do not believe exists in britain it is called common sense.
