I live on a busy street and have to park my car on the road - I park it half on the road, and half on the (wide) pavement.

I and others on the street do this, because if you park fully on the road, people driving past constantly smack your wing mirror in their rush to get to the chippy. My RH mirror is actually secured by cable ties because of this.

Earlier in this evening, I am pottering about upstairs when I hear an unmistakable 'SMACK!' from outside followed by that sound of something plasticky landing on tarmac.

I leap into action and rush outside (in my pyjama bottoms). I'm too late to see the car which must have just passed and created the smack.

I go to the side of my car.

Wing mirror still attached.

Not pushed in at all.

No scuffs even.

Then I look down, and I find my prize:

Mr. Green

What appears to have happened, is some knobber has been hammering along the street, and has made contact with the van parked in front of me, which happens to be parked fully on the road.

The van has shielded my car, and even more amazingly the van's mirror seems completely undamaged! Shocked Laughing

I picked it up and went down the street a bit, but couldn't see any blue car, let alone one sans LH mirror.

So I decided to keep it as a trophy, seeing as the owner didn't care enough to come back looking for it (they probably feared they'd caused similar damage to the parked van).

Perhaps they will take more care in future... Karma

I know that many BCF-ers are fond of detached wing mirrors, so I thought I'd post it up. Wink

It is slightly cracked, the photo doesn't show it up.

What confuses me is the way contact was made (directions etc), this mirror should have folded in, and the van's should have come off. Confused

I tried to find something inside it ID-ing the manufacturer of car, but nothing. Looks newer than my '95 red peugeot, doubt it'd go anywhere near fitting mine (I have manual angle adjusters Laughing ) but hey, a bit of gaffer tape and you never know!

There was a jumper involved too Skudd, no bra though so may have been some light jiggling. Laughing

Looking at the mounting for the glass it appears to be from a Skoda/VW/Audi/Seat.

Only reason i know this is because twat knocked mine off (only folded it in but the glass fell out, was nowhere to be seen Laughing )

Cost me around £65 for a new mirror unit (wasn't colour coded either) as the mounting for the glass was broken. Aparently colour coded ones are around £150 + painting, comes to around £350 if done at a stealers Shocked

Not to mention Skoda are extremely cheap when it comes to parts (£54 for a set of 4 wheel trims, Ford want that for 1!)
