Xbox LIVE BanHammer for Playing Forza 3 Early
>> It looks like Microsoft started banning users from Xbox LIVE for playing Forza 3 early (the game was leaked on the internet a few days ago). It's not the first time Microsoft puts out the BanHammer from playing leaked games and it will certainly not be the last time. For now it seems to be an Account BAN and not a Console BAN.

Here's a quote of the email banned users got from MS:
Quote:

Notification of Permanent Suspension: Pre-release title play

This email is to notify you that your Xbox LIVE account privileges have been permanently suspended due to illegitimate pre-release title play.

Your conduct was brought to the attention of the LIVE Enforcement Team through the course of our operation of the service. The LIVE Enforcement Team has reviewed the complaints and other evidence regarding this content and determined it violates the Xbox LIVE Terms of Use and/or Code of Conduct. Because your conduct is in violation, the Xbox LIVE Enforcement Team has enacted this permanent suspension against your gamertag.

During your suspension, you will not be able to log into Xbox LIVE. Your Xbox LIVE privileges will not be reinstated.

Customer Support is not able to modify or provide any further details about your suspension.

Microsoft expects that all customers abide by the Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct provides guidelines for appropriate behavior while using the service.

Are you able to open a new account, or does the XBox ID itself online?

They should be able to open an account with a different gamertag.

TBH I have no sympathy, if everyone played pirate copies then there would be no point in the companies developing new games.

It's an annoying situation because I've played Forza3 and Borderlands and haven't been banned for either of them yet. But most people at BlackCats (torrent community) have been banned for playing one or the other.

Seems strange but I've never been banned through the ban hammers and I've always played the crappy releases. A lot of them got emails from Microsoft stating that your account has been banned. A few got temp 24 hour bans which have now turned into permabans. Guess M$ like to flaunt the power.

I buy games I enjoy, which isn't a lot. 9 out of 10 games you play now are just redesigns of another with a different story, no fresh features and nothing epic worth paying for. COD4 was awesome, Left 4 Dead was awesome and I enjoyed Tales of Vesperia so I bought them. The other 130 games I have are all downloaded and were all pretty shit minus a few. Charging £40 (£50 price hike is coming in the next few months) for something I will play for 5 minutes and get bored of is silly.

What community do you belong/get all your info from NC30? Other than Blackcats I haven't seen too many places talking about this. Most people think it's because of the Wave 4 partition and it flagging up consoles, although Borderland is Wave 3 still.

@Jamrock, XBL gives you plenty of free downloadable demos to see if you like the game, so your argument doesnt hold water.

If everyone downloaded games from the ned we would never had got as far as COD4 Wink

I don't want to get in an argument over cost of games, to me its simple, if you dont think its worth the money you dont buy it. Games take years in production, and if they do increase the cost to £50 then its those who use pirate games which have to accept some responsibility.

"Like to flaunt the power"? People are getting banned for stealing intellectual property in a fashion as to be so obvious that it's beyond a piss take, I'd hardly call it flaunting.

Xboxscene is a good way of keeping an eye on things though, one of the beauties of using XBMC is the news ticker Laughing

One of my mates is currently seeing a games reviewer so pinched her review copy off her and has been playing it for over a week now with no issues. I have heard of people being banned for playing copies of games online though as the discs have a unique id (well i know the ps2 and ps3 games do so assume this applies to 360 games) to prevent multiple copies of that game being played at once. So if more than 1 person is playing with that ID then they get done over with the ban hammer.

Demos are NEVER an accurate showing of the game. They're made to show people the best features, the best looking parts and the most action packed parts. So many times I've played a demo then went and got the game just to feel ripped off.

Yes games take a long time to make but charging £40/£50 is a huge rip off. I used to buy every PS2 game because I thought £30 was fine, waiting for the £20 versions when they sold to platinum.

Piracy is a funny thing because as much as it does destroy decent things it's always going to be around.

By me saying they like to flaunt their power I left out a crucial point to that arguement! haha I understand fully getting banned over playing backups, I'm one of the few people on the tracker who doesn't really care if I get banned or not because what I'm doing is illegal.
But M$ have been banning people playing LEGIT copies they have got early from stores, full retail releases. Just find that kind of crazy when reviewers get banned for playing a game they're supposed to be reviewing. Tommo64 (https://twitter.com/Tommo64bit) has been banned for playing his reviewers copy of Forza3 when he works for Xbox Magazine. https://forums.xbox.com/29476424/ShowPost.aspx

Microsoft banning people for piracy, ain't that the fvcking cake! Considering they're one of the biggest robbing criminally fraudulent pirates on the planet. If the fvcking law had any legitimacy at all MS would be prosecuted for Vista and forced to give a free copy of W7 to everyone who paid good money for the steaming pile of shite it is. 'Not fit for purpose' doesn't come even close.

They deserve every bit of piracy to which they're subjected. Me, I cost them thousands with the cracked copies of XP I installed on clients' PCs over the years (at no extra charge I should add). Hundreds of Win98s upgraded to 2000 or XP...FREE! I considered it one of the perks of my job.

Theres a few people moaning about this on Xboxlive.com. The only thing the 'mods' will say is they they know the difference between legitimate copies and illegal ones. Nothing else.

I dont really care that much to be honest but I think people do take the piss a bit. If you are not only going to steal it, but infact steal it early, then have the idiocy to play it online on your box before release then I have very little sympathy. Its like stealing the latest Metallica albumn and then going round to Kirk Hammets house and asking if you can play it on his stereo. Laughing

that annoys me to the hilt, one download does not equal one lost sale, if i bought a game and my friend bought a game , and we swapped is that bad too, just think if everyone bought one game and passed it around, think of how much money they would lose Rolling Eyes

companies are there to gain as much money as they can from the consumer, they dont play by the rules so why should the consumer

It's still over complicated, if by overcomplicated you mean RT Gas LT Brake and left analogue stick to steer. Laughing

Yeah show me a torrent for a game that has only been downloaded once Rolling Eyes If NO games were pirated then prices would be keener, there is enough competition between the console manufacturers and game developers to ensure this. Every illegal download is a POTENTIALLY lost sale, if even 10% are then that is money being lost to the developers. If everyone simply downloaded their games, guess what, no new games. Do you not grast the concept that the developers NEED to make money? They have wages, overheads etc etc.

I have never been a fan of pirating, however without condoning it I do understand it on a market which is totally dominated by one large corporation (see m$), but most of the game developing is done in a VERY competitive market, often by relatively small developing companies.

If we want games to continue and improve, they need to turn enough profit to warrant the design, manufacture, distribution, research and development of not only the software, but also the hardware.

Remember the console manufacturers at times are pushed into providing more advanced hardware because the software companies are designing games which can be enjoyed more with next gen systems.

I have only pirated games that I would never have purchased. In fact sometimes I have pirated a game only to find I really like it, after which I've purchased the retail version.

OS software on the other hand........
