Anybody out there play?

I started playing in August and I'm totally hooked! I'm also totally crap at it but I'm seeing signs of improvement. I've got my 18 hole score down from 120-130 to 100- 115. I can tell I'm playing noticabley better but I still scuff or over hit the occasional shots which totally bugger up my score. It's the most frustrating game I've ever came across but I'm a sucker for any game that involves scoring points.

I get some weird looks of people when I arrive at the course on the bike with my clubs on my back though Very Happy

So that puts me at a handicap of 28 which is fully handicapped. Anyone play of anything better?

Never quite understood the attraction tbh but tried it a couple of times when i was bored.

I see golf as the first sign of getting old.

That my man is class Thumbs Up

Only ever played it a few times. My dad is really into it think he plays off of a handicap of 2!
I would always usually volunteer to drive the buggy and caddy at the works golf outings, I'd have a hip flask and some cans of Tennents Super. So by the 11th hole I was usually smashed Very Happy Thumbs Up

I do like going down the driving range and taking out some anger on the man that drives the tractor collecting the balls Twisted Evil

I play alot, generally to around an 18 handicap, occasionally better.

Ulthar, you obviously have never played if you don't think it's a sport. Come and play 18 holes on my local course and tell me you haven't used muscles that you didn't know you had. You'd use the land for a sport ground would you? For which sport exactly? Surely that would be equally as selfish. As for using it as a 'green space' what the fuck do you think a golf course is? The amount of wild life that can be seen on any course it astounding!

I used to play a quick 9 hole, 27 par course during lunchbreaks with a couple of mates when I worked in Acton. It was great for just getting out of the office for an hour. I'm crap; I can get the ball next to the flag in one, but then take about 15 attempts to putt it in.

I'm considering taking it up, a couple of mates go whumping once a month.

I play Sid Meier's Sim Golf, does that count? Laughing

I did once upon a time play fairly regularly back in the school days, got a half decent set of clubs in the loft, but they are very old tech now compared to modern stuff. Just basic steel shafts.

I always sucked quite a lot, I taught a few people the basics and most of them become better than me in a very short time.

Towards the end I developed a hideous slice, which sometimes meant I had to aim more than 45 degrees left off the tee, in order to get the ball to land somewhere on the fairway. It looked perverse and scared a lot of people on cramped courses.

Not really bothered since then, but i'd quite like to be half decent at it, so always keep it on the back burner.

Loads of courses round here also, although I always hated the snobbery, dress code and inflated prices of the better courses. £30-50 quid a round is a bit of a joke, and twice a month for example that would eat a lot of the funds reserved for other fun stuff.

The total love it or hate it thing with golf is quite amusing, mention it in the wrong crowd and look at the reactions Laughing

I enjoy playing when i get the chance, but sold my car a couple of months back and just using the bike so dont play as much as i'd like - never thought of trying to strap the clubs onto the back of the bike mind Confused - U got any pics of the clubs on the bike????

I have actually played golf and it is so mind numbingly dull. And no, it is not a sport. Since when does whacking a ball over grass, strolling around, not knowing where the ball is going to go, bending over to nudge a ball into a hole, constitute as a sport? Any cunt can walk about, kicking shit around aiming at a general direction. Its a bloody farce.

A sports ground has many uses. Can use it for various sports like football, rugby, tennis, running, sprinting. People can use them as a recreational areas too when they are not in use and people are permitted to use them. A sport ground serves a purpose to many. How often to you see schools going to golf courses?

A golf course - can't go on them unless you are playing golf or the golfers will either aim for you or your dog(s). Golf courses require clearing large areas of land, and becomes a piece of bare land which is not really fit as a habitat as its so exposed with little vegetation. Its hardly a green space when its sole purpose is to serve one specific minority for a few hours a day and no one else is allowed on them.

I think there should be a tax on golf courses and bowling grounds because they are an utter waste of space.

Having broken my neck and spending 6 months in a wheelchair 4 years ago, i can no longer play football / rugby or any other sports.. but golf i can play, just because you dont like it - doesn't make it any less of a sport or any less enjoyable !!

in short ulther, you are a tit.
