A smart person here with me thought of this.

What if scientists knew how much energy was at the beginning of the universe and they had a Theory of Everything.

e.g. feed amount of energy into formula and it would calculate the motion of every single particle ever produced and so calculate every event that ever happened and would happen.

Anyone have any more ideas about this? The Theory of Everything is obviously going to be some complex algorithm.

As energy is neither created nor destroyed then exactly the same amount that is in the universe today. Unfortunately you're idea is stupid therefore not really inciting me to write much in response, oh well, try harder next time or maybe aim a little lower.

Not exactly stupid, just you havent got some of the basic ideas of science, to be able to construct meaningful hyoptheses.

For example, a formula with its only input variable being energy, would not be able to give the motion of every particle ever produced.

There are a few reasons for this.

Let me try to explain one reason. Traditional physics as taught at a level, deals with Newtonian physics. Matter behaves like balls on a pool table, in a predicatable way. However, when things are very small, or when there are very high levels of gravity, or energy, these laws break down. Some things aren't predictable, and locations of particles only exist as a probability.

I don't really understand this stuff too well, but hopefully you get a flavour.

Another thing, is chaos theory. This basically says, that some systems that start with the same start variables, will behave in different way, each time. This chaos can be predicted to some degree, but only in generalities, not locations of specific particles.

You also have the problem of managing all the data of tracking all the particles. I don't think you could track that data, with a system made of matter which was only a small fraction of the whole.

G probably hit the nail on the head, so I suppose there can be clever answers to even the stupidest of questions.

If you want to start to understand this stuff, so your next question makes more sense, try reading a brief history of time by stephen hawking.

Its actually quite readable, but sometimes, you will need to stop, and think to understand bits. No maths involved, so its not the real deal, but its pretty good on concepts.

How can they calculate past events by looking at energy though?

Energy is neither created or destroyed, it is only transferred (ie from heat to kinetic).

So going by this, it would be impossible as there is no way a caveman had windows 7 to record what energy was transferred to where.

Surely if the universe started with a point of infinite density then with enough processing power it would be possible to predict what happens. Maybe not events in modern history on our planet but locations of galaxies and other larger things in our universe and major events.

How are you going to track the locations of all particles, even if you did have a magic formula ?

Any computer you used, would be composed of only a small fraction of the matter in the universe, so would only be able to track a small fraction of all the particles in the universe.

Science doesnt need to track individual molecules to be able to explain the formation of galaxies.

In engineering, modern computer power with finite element analysis, gets very accurate results for heat flow, stress and strain etc, but simple formulas and calculus can get pretty good results with generalised cases, without having to go into detail.
