What kind of bike do you like? Cruiser, standard, sports? Most important thing if you're 5ft is to make sure you're comfortable sitting on it and with how much of your feet you can get on the road to hold yourself up!

When it comes to brands - always go for a good reputable Japanese brand, don't be tempted by something Chinese as you have to look after them like hell and that'll just slow their inevitable disintegration. Especially as in Minnesota you'll have your bike in the garage for months and months you want something that'll survive the cold and probably only be started up every few weeks just to keep it going.

As for gear, people debate leather vs textile, I prefer textile because it's more waterproof and easier to look after. HJC are the biggest helmet brand in the US but it's all down to your budget and more importantly what fits you comfortably!

Hope that helps, welcome!

I just want a cruiser-- somethin to get me around cause i have no car. Im debating whether or not to get it for the winter too.

do you ride in snow and ice? id think its pretty unsafe, especially at night and if you're like me.. with no shiners or tail lights. i have to get some this time around..

as far as those HJC helmets.. ill look into it, i dont have a very large budget but whatevers comfy, right.

Thanks for all the great tips, never heard that about the Chinese brands.. ill go Japanese all the way Smile

thanks man,
PEACE!

Why do you have a link to a bicycle helmets shop in the text of your post?

Spamity-Spam? Thinking

Edit: No not spam, it's not a shop Confused I'm lost.

Are you after getting into cycling or motorcycling? This site is for the engined variety...

For cruisers, MCN suggests Honda Shadow, Kawasaki Eliminator, Suzuki Marauder, Yamaha Virago.

Don't ride in snow and ice, not unless you're on a supermoto and a bit nuts. Not to mention the salt which will eat your bike!

With helmets, remember, it's what's the most comfortable and best fit - it might be the cheapest one in the store but as long as it fits properly that's the key.
